Need some help with savage bolt head.

Ok I just bought NIB Savage Mod 12 BVSS chambered in 243 win. Here's the problem when I removed the bolt from the wrapper I noticed that the extractor in the bolt head was turned around. I inserted the bolt and it opened and closed fine. I inserted a round in the gun and closed the bolt and when I went to extract the round it would not. The extractor is on the left side when it should be on the right. The ejector is trying to throw the rd out to the left. This is a right hand right side ejection port. I don't know what to do. I don't know anything about savage bolts and I relly don't want to have to send the gun back. I will call them tomorrow. Looks to me like the bolt /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifhead could be turned.Somebody please help me.

One of two things happend...you have a RIGHT bolthead installed wrong...or...have a LEFT bolthead installed in a right hand action.

On a right hand bolthead, the extractor should be on the right side of the bolt, and the ejector should be towards the bottom of the action.

If the ejector would end up at the top when you swap the bolt head around, you have a left hand bolthead.

Easy to swap around though.

Remove the bolt, move the button on the side of the bolt (forward of the bolt handle up) to release the firing pin, remove the allen head (or slotted) screw at the rear of the bolt head, remove the firing pin by sliding the sleeve and firing pin rearward, line up the slot with the button, remove button, and let the firing pin slide out.

Push the cross pin out of the bolt body, turn the bolthead 180 degrees, reinstall cross pin, firing pin, firing pin sleeve, button, install bolt handle, tighten rear screw (10-14 ft lb), pull the button back and down to ready to fire position (use the shank of a small flat screwdriver, and reinstall in action.

You have been sold a rifle with a bolt made for one of Savage's "left port" models. I wonder how the factory test fired it if it wouldn't eject. This is not a good sign. Call Savage.
