looking for ideas to see what a 68gr heavy match HP would do to a varmint/ yote, any experiences? im guessing it would just go through-and-through with "little" damage.....or would it mushroom and stay inside? basically any stopping power?

Thanks

I use them for coyotes with good results. I shot one coyote in the chest and it blew a hole like you wouldn't believe. I haven't had any coyotes make it very far when hot with these loads. Almost every coyote has had a fair size hole shot through it. Shoot some of them to see how accurate they are. Good loads to use if your gun shoots them accurately.

I have killed 5 coyotes with the black hills 68gr match hps, of the 5, 2 had a small entrance and no exit, the other 3 had holes the size of cantelope, all hit the dirt upon the shot. I shoot them out of my 16" bushmaster postban and they group really well (little less than 1MOA), its a 1-9 twist. They group better than any other round I have tried, I would like to go with something a little lighter in the future if I could ever find something that grouped as well. I shot through a chrono last year with these rounds and I believe I was getting about 2680 fps or something around that, pretty slow for a .223 but they group fine and I can hit a paperplate everytime at 300 yards off of my shooting sticks so I figure that will do for yotes. Hope this helps

I have been shooting the 68 gr hornady match hp's in my reloads this year. What I have noticed is close in shots tend to have large holes. Longer shots have a 22 cal hole in and no exit. I have yet to have any "pencil" through. Im shooting mine through an 8 twist barrel.

sweet! cause my gun loves that stuff but ive never shot anything with them yet....guess i will now. i have my brother picking up a case in phoenix tomorrow for $.39/round and i would like to shoot what i have rather than paying over a $1.25/round for ballistic tip ammo. thanks Guys!! made me happy

I don't want to highjack this post but since we're on the subject of blackhills I have a question. Yesterday I had a gun dealer tell me that they didn't carry blackhills anymore because they were having alot of problems with it. Said it even lead to a couple of bolts being seized up or something. I'm getting a new AR and was planning on shooting the remanufactured 60 gr. V-Max since I don't reload and now I am a little afraid. Just wondering if anybody has ever experienced problems with blackhills or if this guy is full of it. I google searched blackhills and all the info I could find was how tight their tolerances are for reloading. I've shot quite a bit in the past and never experienced any problems personally, so what gives?

no he doesnt have any because he didn't place his order last year. we havent had any in the gun shop i work at either. its excellent ammo /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. i once had a dealer tell me glocks werent reliable enough for him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Thats kind of what I suspected. Kind of upsets me a little bit since I do all of my business there.

I used to shoot quite a bit of BH Blue box before I started reloading, and have shot some as recently as late fall this year. I was always very impressed with the overall quality and performance of it.

If any of you that are having a hard time finding BH, I was in Gander Mtn. Monday in Amarillo, and they had quite a bit of both Blue, and Red box. I would think it would be available at most Gander Mtns., as guessing it's a corporate decision on what they're allowed to stock. The price on the Blue box was $24.00 / 50 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Didn't notice the price on the Red box. BTW, that the first place I've seen Red box in several months, so was pleasantly surprised they had it available.

Hope this helps (some).

Hangtime.

I was using 69 gr Sierra BTHP Match bullets from my AR and I have given up using them due to excessive fur damage. I have shot 9 coyotes with them this year and at least 6 of the nine had pretty large holes that needed attention. They do put them on ground in a hurry and my AR loves them and will shoot them under 1/2 inch consistently. But I won't use them anymore unless coyotes drop below $20 a piece and I just start leaving them lay.

I shoot Black Hills 60 gr V-Max and 68 gr match HP out of my AR. Both are very deadly on coyotes with minimal to no pelt damage. I'm sold on both bullets.

These four were shot recently with the blue box 60 gr V-Max at ranges of 25 - 35 yds. No damage. Small entrance with no exit or dime size exit.

Rick The 60 gr np is known to shoot like crap out of most guns, my AR's shoot 21/2"-3" groups with them.
my Heavy bullet for the .223 is the 65gr sierra gameking its made for dear sized animals and works good on deer and coyotes.
