I hunt on a military post here in kentucky and need some advice. First off it is thick hardwoods, pines, cornfields and grown up fields of 2-4 foot grass. Can't scout it except when I hunt. It has long deer, turkey and smallgame seasons as well as alot of Soldiers training on it. No centerfire rifles or buckshot is allowed. I have called in 3 in 2 years but have gotten none of them. While on training exercises I hear quite a few as well as see scat and tracks so I know it has a sizable population. I would like to hear your suggestions on everything from calling sequenses, calls to use and tactics for these coyotes. It seems like they have every advantage over me. I have talked to the people at the pass and permit and nobody has ever asked about coyote hunting on post except me. so I dont think they see any dedicated predator hunting. Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Sounds like the stuff that I have to go through. I hunt here on Ft. Wood, I think I am about the only one. But we can use buckshot here. I'm not expert, but I've done alot of the reading here and it has helped me out alot. I'm from right around Beckley WV, what part of WV are you from. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. See ya Plum

Get yourself up in a tree, and call from there if you can have a light....you'll see those eyes coming thru the grass......it will be a big difference.......

if your hunting the thick stuff i would try a rabbit squeel of some sort. maybe a jack rabbit to mix it up a little bit. beyond that just stick with it and keep going out there to hunt. that is the best way to increase your odds.

p.s. everything is well here in wv. its nice to hear from other hillbillys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. goo luck and be safe
