Never hunted at night, need help!

know what else is fun while hunting at night ?

standing in almost waist high hay, looking out at a cut field, trying to find cover on a bright night. you start off the night with a loud howl and something low to the ground runs past you in that high grass which is followed by sounds you never heard before but reminds you of the sound demons from hell were making in a movie you saw

you only get relief when you realize it was a raccoon that ran past but started fighting with another one that was also trying to get away from the coyote aka YOU

thats fun

you can be squeaky clean right outta the shower and the coyote will still bust you. play the wind.
That is scent control. Managing the wind. I also use Fresh Earth cover scents, laundry detergent, and wafers. It all helps. I go a few steps further. I put all my hunting clothes in a scent safe bag with scent wafers and don't put them on until I'm in the field.

I took my Wicked green hog light and a 22lr for dillo/possum couple times, never had any luck - scanning with the light seemed to scare them off - runners. I hunt a couple 50 acre pastures with pine trees at night with IR. No caller, sitting on ATV, no scent control. Got a 'caller' App on the phone - think I got response a couple times - I saw them in the woods. Most of the time they are just mousing in the field. This is in piney E Texas - lots of small farms around - and lots of yotes, howls at moonrise. Lots of farmers that shoot at yotes too. With the IR I can 'scout' the deer - and tell the Gboys that hunt them! When deer season starts they stay in the trees. So, my advise - get a 384 min scanner ( or scope used as a scanner). The feeder has a green light above it and @ 100 yds, hard to see hogs.
