Saturday night I was calling a well known coyote field with coyote pup distress. About ten minutes into the call I heard what sounded like a stampead coming towards me. As I shined the light toward the thundering noise I saw I know three dozen hogs coming at me on a dead run. Just As we were getting ready to shoot the call stopped and I put the red light on them and I mean the whole heard to an about face. My question is, Have any of you ever had hogs respond to a call before? I'm talkin about full grown monster hogs at that.

What kind of call were you using? I know some pig hunters that would like to know! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was using a johnny Stewart prey master with the coyote pups in distress. In thinking about it the first couple of tones kind of sounds like a piglet sqeal. I have been doing some more asking around about this today and have found that calling over a baited hole for pigs with the johnny stewart hog feeding frenzy works well. I am very excited now because on my next day off you can bet I will be baiting holes.

Gary, I don't have hogs, but I do have a lot of cattle and have had that happen with cows in a calving pasture. Only had to learn that lesson once. You wouldn't think a cow could be that scary, would ya? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've also had the same result with cattle (dying rabbit call). Talk about blowing your cover!

I had a similar incident bow hunting. It was almost dark, no deer, and I'd seen 2 coyotes when I entered the spot. So, I set the deer call to fawn bleat and here they came, the cattle that is. It was a new spot, pitch dark, and I'm trying to escape carrying a bow and a climbing stand. It was interesting.
