New AR build

Well I got my AR built after about a week of waiting for parts to come in. I've built a couple lowers before, but this was the first upper that I have every put together. I've yet to go shoot it, i forgot to order a pin so i could pin the gastube to the gasblock. I like how it came out pretty well, it is a tad bit heavier then i would have like weighing in at 8.8 lbs. But that is my fault for throwing the 15 inch rail on it. Ill test it out and shoot it this weekend to see if maybe i should go with a shorter rail.

I plan to use it just for general plinking and it will probably get to see a yote or two aswell.

8.8lbs with an optic isn't too bad. You could drop a good bit of weight going with a lighter rail like the Troy Alpha, MidWest Ind, or the newer JP one.

Pretty nice looking though.

Yeah its nothing compared to my bull barrel AR with a 4-12 on it. It weighs in at 12-13lbs. Im going to play with the new build and see how it actually handles this weekend, and then ill make the decision on if it needs to drop some weight or not. I let the this will look better bug bite me instead of the practical bug when i chose it.

because you don't have a bunch of stuff on your rails except the covers, one of the modular rails mentioned would save weight. love the 15in look. hopefully some day. with a kies blastmaster and the new ff from diamondhead. right now im just trying to scrape up enough for an optisan mamba and a dpms railed gas block. sweet rifle

I took a look at the mamba and about pulled the trigger on it. I have a 3-12 m223 on my other rig, and it has been a good scope so far. So I decided to keep it in the family. Only thing i'm going to add to it will be a sling and i'll probably get a swivel adapter for my bipod, incase i feel like throwing it on there. Can't shoot it untill this weekend, waiting for a pin so i can pin the gas block to the tube. Then she'll truly be done.

on my current budget the mamba is the best thing going. 150.00 scope and mount, like the reticle, red/green illumination, but etched if battery fails. i need to lose this sight tower and get something on top of this in the worst way. and then start trying to get one set up like i really want. like yours. then kick this sport down to the kids.

The flip ups are nice, but at 4 times while it's up it's just a smudge you can barely make out. Don't think it would be a problem at all

for me it would be on 1x almost always. except if one hangs up at longer range, and i have time to turn it up. flip ups down the road, just in case. due to a lifetime of wingshooting i tend to focus on my target and not front sight front sight front sight. this is the first rifle i have owned.
