New Caliber ideas 257 Weatherby Short Magnum

Because I'm slowing becoming a ballistic freak and constantly building rifles in my head , this one i wanted to share and maybe get some feed Back . I recently bought a Remington 700 Sendro in 25-06 and im excited to get out to the range and test some loads, but with this new 25 Creedmoor hitting the market and looking at the bc's on that 128 grain eldx bullet .633. I know my 25-06 in a 1/10 twist will not stabilize. So i called Hornady and asked if anyone has been building 25-06 with a 1/7.5 twist to stabilize that 128 grain bullet and he said No because of how much free bore you would have to have to get it to chamber. so i started looking at the guys how have been building 300 wsm and necking them down to 25 cal , but then i start to think about the Weatherby radius shoulder and i started coming up with this design in my head about how you could make WSM cartridges with a Weatherby radius shoulder . so my idea is 257 Weatherby short magnum with 1/7.5 twist . I know i would have to have a custom reamer made and probably a bunch of other things . i just wonder what the potential of this idea would have if it was designed and made right ..

PS i would try to eliminate any free bore. and im a speed freak

all comments welcome

Take a look.at the 6.5 Rem Mag for data. It is pretty much a shortened Weatherby case that is just .007" larger and near the same bullet weights. And then there is the 6.5 PRC mag sized case, mag diameter case without a belt. Another would be the 25-284, a beltless mag diameter case that fits a standard bolt face

Talking quarter bore which I don't have any in the stable, as the bullet selection is somewhat lacking to suit my personal taste. Although is growing slowly back to what it once was. It is not a bad choice at all.
I know the OP has mentioned the 128gr Hornady @.6ish BC. I went to Sierra site seems they have a 131gr in the quarter bore. No listing of specs, so I'm not sure without a call to Mo. if it's new or being discontinued. Why am I mentioning the Seirra? The ogive will be different if the throating/Freebore is set for it it ( as it would be prouder, more forward) would allow maybe greater flexibility with the Hornady as hopefully they will expand to a longer (heavier) projectile in the eld line. Then again maybe not, nothing wrong with just sticking to the current chosen Hornady bullet ogive dimensions.

The OP's vision could be met easily, I could expound to great length's but I fear if I do it would kill the thread. The suggestion of the 284 Win case as a base case @AWS is a solid candidate. Not the only one, but it could be the best based on several factors we have not delved into.

There is too many vendors that will support the OP's visions. Of course, many will ask "why" I've ran into this numerous times when asking for a twist outside the "norm" for a certain bore size. But they will in the end cut your barrel /reamer / dies.
There are so many ways to skin this cat it isn't funny.

Picking a case that just needs a bushing change for dies is really handy and better than a custom die. Having brass that just needs necking down is alot easier than having to do some serious case forming is the easy button.

My cats on the 204 are the easy button just changing the bushing and expander ball I can form and load all three .224, 6mm and .257

Making 6.5x58R Sauer brass from 9.3x72R is serious case forming with custom dies from C&H
