New calling rifles....new camo paint job.

After years of lugging around a heavy Ruger 243 with a custom bull barrel, I decided to go light for the type of "run and gun" style of calling we do.

- My gun is a Thompson Contender Carbine with a 21", heavy Virgin Valley Arms barrel in .223 Ackley Improved. Topped w/ 4x12 Leupold.
- My wife's gun is a youth model Rossi .223 w/ 4x Weaver scope.

I just got them built, sighted in, and freshly painted.

They look great! You even camoed your shooting stick to match. At least you won't be laughed at by any wild dogs because your colors aren't color coordinated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I have an old folding stadium seat that has a back to it and it came in red and blue which coyotes may be able to see these colors. I painted it up and the paint was absorbed and still looks about the same blue and red. You have inspired me to re-camo my seat! I have a camo gun, hat, boots, gloves, face mask, shooting sticks, and fanny pack. I believe in blending in. If you have ever hunted with a buddy that has camo on and you are on a stand in differant places with in view of each other in is hard to see each other. It works for me!! I have been using this seat for 3 years or so now and I don't worry about the colors when I am sitting down, but when I am walking in to the stand I know it stands out like a toothless grin. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Ok get out the paint.

Krylon has a Super Flat paint that is designed for camoflauge. It comes in Tan, Brown, Black, and Green.

I layed down a base layer of tan. Let it dry for 2 hours, then a went back with brown, lightly sprayed over pieces of some large ornamental grasses I have growin in the yard. After dry, then went over with black, same as I did brown.

I camoed 2 guns, a small folding stool, my video camera tripod, and 2 pairs of shooting sticks. I used all of the tan paint, but have 90% of the brown and black left.

PS. I'd dump the stadium seat and get a turkey vest, with a flip down seat. I started using one 3 years ago and love it.

Thanks...Tony

My son has the turkey vest/ seat combo, and I notice that there is no adjustment on the back rest when we are on a steep hillside. Mine has two side straps that adjust for any angle. I can even adjust for right and left slopes too. The straps are super fast to adjust and they stay where you set them. I do have to remove the pack from my back to set it up though, where as the turkey vest can stay on your back and just pull down the seat and sit. He usually removes his to get out the decoy and the ecaller. My son's is a rigid frame and mine is a flexible strap type. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I'm sorry that I have strayed away for orginal topic, but I am going to camo up my seat yet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
