New Car!

Foxy,,,From my own experience, and I've had 67 cars/trucks and 11 motorcycles, a vehicle is the poorest investment you can make

Hey Turtle, I agree; however, I sure hate walkin'!

You Know what guys. I think I may hold off for awhile. Heres my plan: Tell me if this sounds better than trying to get it now.

Get the 1700 out my dirt bike, get a job for the winter, save, save, and save some more. Hopefully get a little bit of fur money this year. Come March or April have about 4-5000 on hand and have mom and dad maybe pay 1000-2000

BTW I would pay it all if I could but I knoiw my mom and dad will do something for graduiation this year so why not

Foxy, If you have 5 grand in your hand in today's economy, and probably next Spring's as well, you will almost be able to buy a rocket ship for the Moon...

I know you said something about a '76 GTO...Did you mean a
67 as the 66 & 67s are real classics... as is the '71.. I had a '74 GTO 400 and it was a great ride as well, but not at today's gas prices...

Now just today, I was going in toward the City and spotted the '70 Chevelle SS, Black 2dr HT with the white racing stripes sitting at a shop along the road... No "For Sale" sign, but who knows... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well...since you're having a change of heart...check out www.daveramsey.com IF you adopt his attitudes about money, and read his books (available at most book stores), you'll be miles ahead of other folks your age. Just saying........ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I was reading this thinking you guys are NUTS! If I found a nice 1969 Stang, I'd go for it in a heartbeat. Then it dawned on me that it was a '96! DOH!

Good plan, foxy!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

When I was in high school, my dad was the GM at a Dodge/Chrysler store.

I have owned:

1971 440 Barracuda CONVERTIBLE (only made a very few of those) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
1970 Hemi 'Cuda
1972 440 Challenger
1974 383 Road Runner

and several others.

Like many have already said, if you were my son I'd advise you to pass on it. Too much $$$ for the car. There's NOTHING wrong with owning a "hot" car, but you need to make sure you get a decent deal in the process. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I hope to own one of those one day, my dad had a 1971 Superbee Limited edition with the 440 6-pack...absolute rocket...one day...one day

Old tutle I dont htink I have ever mentioned anything about gto's. I havent ever been a fan of them. Maybe you mean the 89' pontiac transam gta??? I still have my eye on that one.. Its prettty quick. I think it may be quicker that the mustang

The bottom line is:
How fast do you want to go, and how much money do you have to spend? Speed costs.
Those old muscle cars are nothing compared to what is available today.
Newer offerings go above 1000 HP and handle a lot better. They are pretty pricey but 5-600 HP is reasonably priced.

Jack

I say dont buy it...

I was 17 about 5 years ago, did the same thing (jump between cars and trucks) and can say with confidence YOU DONT NEED IT. Just like you dont need to pay those speeding tickets (dont worry, you WILL get some..no matter how much you tell yourself...and parents you wont) and just like you dont need to pay for any of those "go-fast" goodies that you will want.

Ive already had one speeding ticket in my truck. State trooper nailed me on labor day, 72 in a 65, so my fine doubled. I paid $169.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

maybe you should get a detector or a scrambler instead of the car

I saved for an 81 Malibu when I was seventeen. Centerline wheels, 305 with cherry bombs. Would wake the neighborhood up! It was the car I really wanted and I loved it! $2000 in and sold it for $2000 three years later.
