SOMEONE TOLD ME HORNDAY HAS COME OUT WITH A NEW 223 AMMO THAT HAS THE SAME PUNCH AS 22-250 ANYONE HERE HEARDM OF THIS?
 
I heard of the Superformance ammo that is a couple hundred fps faster then standard ammo and Hogden has released the powder to us recently.
I doubt it will put a .223 in the same speed range as 22-250 but it is faster then most factory ammo and should make for some interesting load experimentation and development.
 
The speed listed is from a 24" bbl also so do not expect it to go 3400fps in a 20" bbl.
It will never match the 22-250 thats a sales gimmick.
 
I recently fired 3rds .223 superformance in a friends rem 700. It chronographed @ 3423 fps in a 22" barrell & the three shots measured .427" @ 100 yds. I cant wait for the weather to get better so I can test it in my 20" barrell. I also have a box in .22-250 to shoot in my sons Stevens. I believe Hornady has a winner.
 
The group that I shot in my 20" barrel .223 measured 1.4" @ 100 yds & chronographed 3225 fps. A little diaspointing, but this gun is very picky. The group that I shot in my sons .22-250 measured .378" & chronographed 3450 fps no where near as fast as they said but very accurate.
