New Purchase 17 HMR - Savage vs Marlin vs CZ

I have a marlin with a heavy barrell just a cheap one from wal-mart, and you couldnt ask for a better shooter at 75 yards I can shoot the thumbtacks that hold my target on. The only modifying I've done is cut the barrell to 16 inches and smoothed up the trigger pull. A couple of my buddies have savages and they will also shot awsome I dont think you can go wrong with any one you choose.

i have a dicks sporting goods special savage, it has the blued bull barrel, with a dark brown laminated thumbhole stock and the accu-trigger $330 out the door. then topped w/ a nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40SF milidot scope

great gun, better than the marlin which i had before, but i only like the savage better b/c of the stock and trigger, just has a better feel and the magazine is much easier to use. you would be happy either one but my vote is for the savage

What Unk said. I have the CZ 452 in .17 HMR with the Brooks trigger kit installed and I couldn't be happier. Around 2 pounds with zero creep. This gun is just plain fun to shoot. About an 1" at 100 yards and deadly on ground squirrels out to about 200 yards, (as long as the wind cooperates). My longest shot so far was lazered at 192 yards. Save your money up until you can afford the CZ.

CZ made a run of "specials"in .17 HMR,same as the Lux,but without the walnut stock.I think Whittakers has them for around 240.00.

I had a Marlin for awhile, shot very good, but the trigger left much to be desired. I have also shot a Savage w/accutrigger, probably what I would buy if I were buying again. I'm sure the CZ is nice as well, no personal experience though.

I have owned the 17HMR is CZ, Savage and Marlin. I am not a fan of the accutrigger. I do not like the fit & finish of Savage rifles and I sure hate the resale value of a Savage or a Marlin rifle. CZ's hold their value much better than the Savage or the marlin. The CZ will most likely be the best shooter out of these three or at least this has been my experience.

The CZ 452 is a very nice rifle and with the Brookes trigger kit it will have an awesome trigger. If you love sweet triggers though then save your pennies and buy the CZ 453. They have the sweetest trigger of any production rifle I have ever used.

So if you want, accuracy, good resale, excellent fit & finish, then you want a CZ.

I have the CZ and the Savage. Take both out regularly. Either one works fine. My brother has the Marlin. It has issues. He is not happy with his purchase.
