Alright, I'm ready to jump on the 22 cm wagon. My dilemma is should I re barrel my tikka 22-250 varmint special with a proof carbon fiber or just buy a new rifle? The ruger american looks good as well as the Savage 110. I'm torn and going back and forth. I'm new here and hope to get some valuable opinions. This rifle will be used suppressed and for coyotes.
New rifle or rebarrel an old one?

Round count on the 22-250, how accurate is it(I don't mess with good barrels)? Most smiths will be 4-6 months out on shouldered barrel work. 400-500$ for a quality blank + smith fees.
Thank you for the response. The Tilka is a vault queen, maybe 40-50 rds through it. It shoots ok but nothing earth shattering. The problem is that I have several 22-250s and zero 22 cm. The cost of a proof cf pre fit barrel is within $200 of a new rifle. The Tikka is also a heavy barrel so it's really nose heavy.

I would rebarrel it but not with a proof carbon prefit. Iād get a sporter contour barrel and get a good smith to chamber and install it for you. I hate swinging a Tikka Varmint on a coyote.

You're rolling the dice with a Proof wrapped barrel. There is a significant percentage of those barrels that have bore dimensional issues or internal stresses that will make the point of impact walk all over the target when it warms up. Some of them shoot fine......but a lot of them don't.
I would spend less money and buy a sporter barrel Tikka, 1-8" twist, 22-250. I have one, and it will shoot anything from 40-62 gr bullets, haven't tried anything heavier. I'm using the 62 gr VT for coyotes, and it's working great in my gun. My gun with Pulsar thermal and suppressor weighs just over 10 lbs.

Tikkas are too good to leave in the safe. I would look at the Urban Rifleman: PREFIT NUT BARREL (REM 700, SAVAGE SM/LG, TIKKA T3, KELBY, BAT, CURTIS AXIOM, BERGARA, RUGER AMERICAN, WIN M70))
You can get a barrel nut 22CM barrel for the Tikka and swap it yourself with just a few tools, or get a smith to do it. I only have one of their barrels, but it shoots lights out.
Personally, I would go with an 8 twist and no shorter than 20 inches.
