Just for you Rock River fans that haven't heard the news yet. Rock River Arms now has three rifle models chambered in .308. The bad news is that they won't be available until summer. I have already told me dealer that I want the first Varmint A4 .308 that he gets in. It will make a nice big brother to my .223 Varmint EOP. It uses FAL mags, which aren't so hard to come by either.

I'm not the authority, but my understanding on the Bushmaster is that they were having bolt failures. I also seem to remember an article on the Armalite where one of their designers stated the reason they didn't use the FAL mags is because it would require weakening the bolt. Thus, I would be very interested why RRA believes they will be successful where Bushmaster wasn't. Is there anyone out there who can confirm my sketchy memory with facts? I'm going to go over to ar15.com. There is a section there specifically for the .308 guns. There is also a lot of people who know a whole lot more than I do. I would recommend you watch ar15.com for feedback before you lay out your cash.

At 11.6 lbs. add a scope and a full Mag wow that baby would be heavvvy...

Wow, no kidding! That gun would get awfully heavy to pack around! Kinda surprised to see it has a 26" barrel on it. That's awful long by AR standards!

The weight is not an issue for me. I plan to use it for bench shooting, prairie dogs, and chucks. With a scope, a full mag, and a bi-pod it might be heavy enough to watch the impact. I am curious about the "weak bolt" issue with the Bushmaster, if that was the case.

I am curious to see if RRA can work out the design flaws that Bushmaster could not figure out. I liked the BAR10, but I couldn't justify spending $1500 on a rifle that used $5 FAL mags. I paid $800 for my DPMS LR 308 and I assure anyone that I would not be buying $700 worth of mags to justify the difference in price between the BAR10 and DPMS. I could not be happier with the LR...it shoots as well or better than my bolt action rifles. I like the fact that you have a quick follow up shot for hunting applications.

I hope that RRA in .308 will be a winner because they make some incredible AR15's.

I have 3 DPMS .308's 16", 18" HB, and 24" HB and a 20 and 24" .300 SAUM. They are awesome shooters for half the price of the others. I have shot them all and the DPMS's shoot as well or better than the SR-25's.

I have a bushmaster BAR10 That i have had no trouble with it shoots great.
I'm wondering if rock river didn't pick up on bushmasters lowers to build there rifles with.

I was at the SHOT show this weekend, and I ordered a 16" CAR 4 and a commander sized 1911 from Rock River. Did you know they will put a custom serial number on your guns? I'm getting my birthday put on the 1911.

Anyway, my buddy with the firearm business who gets me into the show was shooting the breeze with Chuck and trying to get the scoop from him as the how the rights were procured from Bushmaster, or where Bushmaster got the design in the 1st place. Chuck wasn't talking, so don't believe anything you hear on the net about how the deal was done.

As to the bolt, I figured 30,000 people were going to ask the same question, and as I own 2 DPMS .308s I didn't see the point in asking about it, as it doesn't apply to me.

I don't think Rock River would put spmething out that doesn't work.

DPMS has a few new models of the .308 this year. They had a 'something something sniper system' that they made for a military contract. They (DPMS) told me last year at the SHOT show that the reason for the little forward assist on the AP4 was that they were going for a military contract so I guess they got it. They (DPMS) also have a .243 upper and what, a .260?
