Ok have been wondering about the velocity differences/loss with the short barrel and there is basically none. I shot it this morning with 3 different ammos and compared the velocities with a 22" barreled Marlin 22XTM. The American compact .22WMR gives up no velocity basically but give tons more handiness.

I handled one at one of my LGS, nicely made. However, finding ammo for it may be a task!

Oh there is plenty of ammo avabile,but it is more expensive then the rifle. lol
