New Savage in .204 - Help please

I have used both, I use the 32 noslers and 35 bergers, they both are fur friendly on coyotes. I did shoot 40gr bergers and they were also friendly even on our reds, as they didn't expand on them. The 35's are tough on fox though. With a normal hit both will give good results.

Glad to hear you're having luck with the Noslers. My VLP loves 'em. I have had little pelt damage on most shots except the ones that were quartering away. They ripped a hole 3 and 4 inches long if the bullet hit at much of an angle. Good luck!

I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing about this by now, so I will get this last post in and then drop it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I shot 9 shots today with a new recipe and got a pretty good result. If you don't count my two flinches, the result was a 7-shot, 7/8" group off a bipod. I think I found my coyote "medicine" for next season. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Recipe =
40 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip
26.8 gr. H4895
CCI small rifle primers

Both of my .204's shoot OK. I've tried the following.

Rem 700 pencil barrel.
40g Hornady Vmax- Key hole @ 100yds.
32g Hornady Vmax 1"- 1.5" @ 100yds.
34g DownTown "3/4"-1.5" @ 100yds.

DPMS 204
34g Dogtown 1"-2" @ 100yds.
32g Vmax 1.5" @ 100yds.
39g Blitzkings 1/2" @ 100yds.

I haven't tried the 39g's in the Rem since the action is getting sent to PacNor shortly for a .17rem barrel.

Just sees how a rifle can be picky.

I've heard nothing but excellent reviews on the 39g bullets. I'm glad I picked them up and tired them.

I had the same problem with the bullets not feeding. Make sure when you load the gun that you push the shell all the way back in the mag. I have not had a single one jam up since and I've done so quick shooting with it. Good luck.

You should give the 35 bergers a try. They do quite well in most factory 204 tubes. I have 2 savage 12's (vlp & btvss) and the 35 bergers will shoot under a 1/2" at a 100 yds all day long.
