New small game rifle?????

Well,,, I beat the snot out of my Henry, and I gotta say it's one of the most accurate and reliable rifles I've ever owned. Granted, they aren't the collectible heirloom Henry would have you believe (and I'm not so sure Marlin or Winchester are any more either), but for the price, they're a pretty good value IMO.
As far as gumming up goes, I haven't experienced that problem. Mine doesn't set in the safe or closet either, it rides in the rack in my truck 365 days a year, see plenty of hard use during Cat season, and even sees some time in the Gopher patch with nary a hick up. I clean it once a year whether it needs it or not.
Only draw back I can see if you live somewhere with stupid gun laws is the tube feed. Here in ID we can have all the rounds we want in the gun as long as there isn't one in the chamber so I keep the ten round mag full and never worry about forgetting ammo or losing a magazine.
Yea, we can all set around and nit pick and find fault with every gun out there if we try hard enough because the truth is none of em are perfect, but I still say a lever action 22WMR's about as handi and versatile as it gets and I'm betting you'll be happy with one.

From Cats to Gophers.

That's a pretty wide spectrum IMO.

Course that's a ground squirrel, not a eating squirrel, so I'm not sure it counts.

I like buying American when I can too, although I'm pretty sure Marlin and Winchester are still American made. Not sure their owners are though, but who can keep up with it these days?
Anyone who's thought about a lever action 22mag knows that there just ain't that many of em out there to start with, so after searching, all I really found was junk or collectors items people wanted twice the price for, so I took a chance on the Henry.
No regrets so far.

When I picked out my Henry, I got into the same problem as far as selection in the lever action 22 magnums. I like the sights on the Henry and it seems to be well made. Some people buy guns to look at and some buy them to use and some both. I like for a gun to look descent, but my primary purpose for having a gun is to use it and the Henry 22 mag meets all the criteria. It is a well made, reasonably priced, reliable, and accurate gun. I have never heard anyone complain about a Henry.

I understand exactly what you 2 are saying and it is very true. Making the Henry a very viable option.

Like a jackass I traded my 9422 mag. to a good bud right before the prices skyrocketed. I would love to have another, but it is hard to pay twice the price for something you already bought for less. Same with the Marlin 39s, which are absolute gems IMO......

You know, you hit on something I have been pondering for a while. I'm wondering if my shooting skills with open sights are what they used to be. Yeah, I can still take out a deer @ 100 yds, but I'm talking about hitting smaller critters that are moving. I'm not so sure I'm "in practice" any more. Seems I have become scope dependent lately. Other than my 348 Win and Bisley Blackhawk, I cannot recall doing much hunting/shooting with open sights or peeps lately. I may have to bust out an old classic this year for deer season. I have bunch of old lever guns that just sit in the safe. Most are pre-64 Winnys......

Thanks K22,
And I understand the quantity vs quality mind frame, and as much as I joke I try to go that. I don't however see me paying 2-3 times more for a 94/22 over a Henry.

7 kids, I couldn't do it. I'm head over heels for my son and will be for the next but 7 wow!

Nice pics Charlie,
Look seeing those cats, haven't seen a bobcat since I lived in MT. All we have is the bigger fluffy footed cousins

Thanks for all the input fellas, I foresee a 22wmr in my future before the snow flies and traps get set and it's calling time

Get the Ruger 77/22 magnum, great rifles very accurate built for hunting tuff rifles! I should know I have 7 of them!!I had my Ruger stainless in 22 magnum out this morning hot temps 104 yesterday won't stop the Ruger. Like I say tuff tuff rifles!

Ya know,,, I still do "OK" with rifles,(see the post I just made on EPH's 22mag twist rate thread) but no matter how hard I try I just can't focus on handgun sights anymore.

Really sux too cause I'm not sure if one could ever put an aperture sight on this one.

Yeah I got my Single 6 (32 Mag) with the same sights on it. It has been a year or so since I've shot it. Problem is, it has been about a year since my vision has gotten worse. I used to have eagle eyes, now (I think) I still see great far away, but need reading glasses. I think I may still hold the gun far enough away to focus on the sight, but if my eyes get any worse all bets are off, unless I get "real glasses"....
