Hi guys I'm new to the site I'm getting into reloading my 243 win mossberg atr 100. My rifle has a 1:9 1/4 twist. Iv done some research and came up with a load to try first just wanted some extra input on recipes and what I may need to look into further.

I'm going with winchester brass and WLR primers with the 58 gr hornady vmax over 40 gr of imr4350 I think this will defiantly give me velocity and I'm thinking it's a good load to start with.

What do ya'll think

Ok thank you any help... Well it helps obviously good to know I'll keep an eye out I was going to go with H380 but heard it burns dirtier than most powders I heard you can't go wrong with H4350 or IMR4350

I an certainly not very experienced with loading light bullets into 243s, although I have loaded for many 243s and owned many also.

A couple things I can add though would be:

I agree 4350 is better with heavy bullets.

H380 is what I used to use and still do use, for lighter bullets. Although, I only still load it for a friends rifle that I used to own. 55gr SBKs. It is not cleanest burning stuff, as stated, but it works. After my stash of it is gone, I will probably not use it anymore. That goes for my 55gr 22-250 loads as well........

13b how did you come up with that load. If you just picked what others have suggested to use you will have to work up a load for your gun. Every gun is different. And like others have said would not be my first choice with those bullets.

I actually put it together from different recipes people were using from 80 gr bullets and under I wouldn't mind goin to a different powder but I guess I am kind of curious now as to what it will actually do

I would personally try a different powder to start out with. If you want velocity I would start with H4895 always had good luck using this powder when I wanted something to go Fast! Hodgon website lists a load for H4895 and 58gr Vmax. H4895 is what I shoot out of my 243 with 87gr Vmax, also shoot lighter 270 bullets 110gr and below with it and 22-250 bullets 50 gr and above with it all with great results. Save your 4350 for the 95grainers. Also very hard to beat Varget.

I've got some 80 gr Sierra's in the classifieds if you'd like some. They are a great bullet for varmints to deer, IME. Your 4350 would push them swimmingly.

It just worked up a batch of 87gr vmax and imr 4064. I will hit range in a few days and see how they shoot! I've heard good things. As to the original post I haven't used 4350 only imr 4831 and now 4064. I have only loaded bergers and vmax in 87gr pills. There is a lot of good info on here and a lot of smart guys. Best of luck to you.

I use IMR 4064 and 58g V-Max for the tightest groups out of several different powder/lighter weight bullets out of my R25.
Precision Reloading had some one pound containers of IMR 4064 yesterday, but not worth it IMO to just buy a couple pounds w/hazmat.
In my experience the 4350 works good with the heavier bullets..80g should be ok,I use the 87`s though or 95g Nosler.

Well I'd be more than happy to try a heavier bullet and if anyone has some to spare that's even better because finding them these days is so much fun for any component. I'd like to try the BTHP sound to work the best for yotes

Ok looks like reloading components are harder to find than factory loads unfortunately I would like to shoot better groups than what I can get out of a factory load

H380 and AA2700 work charms on the 55-87g bullets. All my loads using those are under .730" in a skinny pencil sporter barrel, same twist as yours.
Everything heavier gets W760 or H414 behind them.

Sounds like some others swear by imr4350 with 58 gr vmax only thing I can't find is recipes for these loads I'm planning on trying different powders also to compare them I'm strictly wanting accuracy up to 300 yds I have 80 gr gmx for long range

As for me, I will continue to swear by IMR 4064 with 58g V-Max. Velocities are just WAG`s from what is published. after IDK 5-6 years still no chrony.
5 rounds from a clean barrel. this load is proven enough for me that it is primary (only?) one anymore for my R25.
