I am trying to get into coyote calling and a little or alot of information would be greatly appreciated.
I am in Seattle, Wa. area so if anyone is in the area and would like a tag along that would be great also.
p.s. open to eastern Wa. also around Yakima area. Also open to any varmint hunting.
Thanks.

I am also sorta new to calling. I am a life long hunter and have some great friends so that helps. Read these posts, read the old ones there is a ton of info available on this site. Get some calls and the training tapes practice. Camo and scent are mandatory, you can get a "varmit rifle" later unless your budget is better than mine!!
You have to hunt, to catch fish you have to fish, not talk, same with hunting. time in the field.
You do not need the newest or best to get going.
Good luck, welcome to a fun time, go get em.

Actually if you went back through the postings that you listed on the other sites you received a lot of good advice on what a stand was or is....

In picking a stand one must do at least as small amount of scouting the area. No matter how many stands or how long you spend on a stand , if the coyotes are not in that area you are spinning your wheels as well as wasting your time.

Look for scat in two track roads as well as on black tops that are less traveled. Also get out and look for tracks. Once you have these located then you muct observe the area and pick out a place that the wind will be in your favor so to speak. Such as not entering that area with the wind blowing from you to them. Also remeber to try to pick an area that you can see downwind as most coyotes if given the chance will try to get downwind of you to see what you are. This is true with only a few exceptions that you will learn about later.

Now go out there with your caller and have at it. The amount of time you spend there has to do with just how much you are willing to wait. Lots of people only stay 10 minutes max and then some have been known to stay for extended periods. That is up to you as both will work. Good luck and above all else remember to have fun.........James L.

Hi Roddy,
That is good advice. Location is everything. Crit-R-Calls or FoxPro would be a good place to start for learning. Going on some guided hunts with the pro's can teach you alot first hand. Glad to have you here.

Try the Predator Hunting fourm just below this forum lots of coyote info there. There are lots of people from Washington there even a planned get together at the end of the month open to all.

Sometimes I just "stand" in a cedar tree with my camo coveralls on. The key is to have a good view out in front of you, so you can see the critters coming in. Place yourself downwind and call into the wind and get comfortable and don't move around during your calling. Give each "stand", at least 20 minutes for a critter to respond.

Good Hunting!
