Here's my new toy for backyard fun. It's a Chinese made pellet gun a knock off of the old Crosman 160. It's .22cal and uses two 12g CO2 cartridges. It's been tuned by a guy in Iowa HERE. These seem to be the 10/22 of the pellet gun world, lots of mods and tweaking going on. Here are a few pics just playing around with it at 15 yards. The scope is pretty junky but was laying around from a rifle I bought, parralax is bad with it at these ranges. A beeter scope is in the works.

boy that should do the trick. I've been thinking of a pellet gun myself. Do you lose velocity rapidly when the co2 gets low, or does it keep it up till the end?
 
The point of impact starts to drop as the CO2 gets low. I'm not sure how many usable ones you get seems like 50-70. It was in the mid 60's though. CO2 does better as it warms, up to a certain point. I'm gonna buy a bulk fill adaptor for mine and fill it from paintball tanks. I've got CO2 and HA for paintball. CO2 bulk is pretty straight forward, not sure whats involved with the air. I'd rather use air because temps don't effect it. Not sure I'd have enough volume though. BTW four birds hit the dirt today and probably six left a bunch of feathers behind. I'm not real sure, but the way I understand it. You don't want to use a scope made for centerfire rifles on an air-rifle, unless it's rated for airguns too. Because of the reversed recoil that airguns exhibit.

We had this discussion with my neighbor today, when playing with his pellet rifle. He wanted to buy my 3-9x40 deer hunting scope.
 
I never have looked in to the validity of that claim but I have heard the same thing. Airgun scopes are specifically designed to handle the reversed recoil where scopes for traditional firearms are not. I have been told that you can destroy even an extreme high end scope on an air rifle if its not specifically made for an air rifle. I would be interested to hear others input on this.

By the way. Nice looking pellet gun. That looks like it could be lots of fun.
 
The scope killing recoil comes from "springer" type air guns. The ones where a single [beeep] loads the spring for firing. Most of those are break-barrel types or side or under levers. When you fire there is backwards recoil as the piston is pushed forward and then forward recoil with the sudden stop at the end of its stroke. Thats the simplified version of it and about as much as I understand it. Mine, being gas powered, has almost zero recoil. A 15g pellet going from 0 to 700 fps doesn't generate much force. Any scope that can handle a .22lr will work fine for me. It's one of the many reasons I went with this gun rather than all the Gamo-type ones out there. I tried a Crosman 1000 break barrel and took it back. It didn't shoot good enough to hit birds regularly and it was as loud as my rimfire.

Seems like a pretty good setup you have there. You are correct in that your rifle can accept any decent scope without fear of damage. Pre charged and CO2 guns are nice in that way.

I have had an RWS springer for years and it shoots really well with the right pellet. However, it is pretty loud in that it makes a pop when the spring uncoils. I don't know know far the sound carries, but it might get a close neighbors attention. Fortunately, mine don't get excited even over a .22lr.
