New upper for one of our members!

I just finished this upper for one of our members. He's the guy that insisted on having the barrel coated and not shiny. That is what prompted me into the "Norrell's Moly-resin" quest.

This upper is part of a complete gun that I built for him. The lower receiver is already in his hands so I couldn't show you the camo stock. The upper is a 20", fluted, stainless, bull barrel with one of my integral compensators. The free-float handguard is from White Oak Armament. The barrel is coated in Norrell's moly-resin, flat-black under the handguard and "sand" color on the exposed portion.

Mike, is that a Oly SUM upper? Or what barrel is it?

I'm beginning to think I would like to have you do a compensator on my Oly 20" SUM.

PM me with the pricing please..

More gun porn,, man do I like it..

That is an Oly SUM, bull barrel. The only camo is on the free-float tube and butt-stock. The two receivers(upper and lower) are both black.

As I had stated earlier, the customer already has the lower, so a picture of the whole gun is going to be up to him when I deliver the upper.

Looks good Mike. Have you ever tried Robbie Robars coatings? I had one of my pistols done in Roguard and it was bombproof. I haven't tried the Polymax camo yet, but I'm thinking of getting it done this summer. Here's a link if you're interested.

Mike very nice, I ordered an upper last week from you. I sure wish I hadn't seen these pictures! Don't know what to do now.

Mike,

I'm certain that I'm not the only one that would absolutely LOVE to have an upper just like this one.

Can you share pricing info and would you be interested in a group deal for PM members?

Ya what he said. That looks GREAT

I can sure put a price together but keep in mind that I build "custom" uppers. If we did a "group buy", the uppers would really no longer be, "custom".

The other thing that I would like to say about this particular upper: I built this, by request, for a member of our armed forces over seas. He wanted the camo free-float, butt stock and coated barrel. I purchase the camo butt-stock and free-float from WOA and passed on the increased cost. All in all, it wasn't a "money making" upper.

I will put some prices together and anyone that would be interested in an upper like this one, send me a PM. After a few days, I will figure out how many to base the price on and get back to the people that PM'ed me. There just isn't a lot of margin in my uppers so I don't know what to expect, but I will find out.

Good looking upper. What about just bead blasting a SS barrel to get the dull finish. I had that done on my new 6BR. Came out great and about the same shade. Just curious.

Taking a picture like this one is tought. When you have it in your hands, it's easy to see the difference between this and a sand-blast finish. One thing that I don't like about the sand-blast finish is, it mars and scratches easily. The "brushed" finish that my custom uppers have, suffer the same weakness.

Look Guys... I know that I was the one that brought up the group buy but I've been on the phone with Mike ordering an upper exactly the way I want it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

His pricing is VERY competitive and you can do it any way you want without penalty. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

PLUS Mike makes them one at a time and tests everything as he goes anyway.

I'm sure I'll be posting more on this when I get my upper.

DANGER!!! Don't call Mike unless you want to place an order. His excitement and enjoyment of making rifles and uppers is contagious and you won't be able to resist. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

OH... And by the way... He now takes credit cards...

Now I gotta tell the wife... Or not... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Come on Bob, you make it sound like I'm a "sales slut" or something....... I just like my job is all.

Here's an upper that I just built chambered in 6 x 45. It's a 20", fluted, bull, SUM with integral comp and Hogue over-molded handguard. This upper is coated with Norrell's flat-black moly-resin.

Mike,

I certainly didn't mean to cast a negative light on you. You're just so interesting to talk to and your excitement about accuracy and AR's is so contagious that you don't need to be a salesman.

Anyone that like's AR's and is interested in accuracy is going to have a hard time resisting placing an order.

Hey... The latest picture raises more questions for me.

I'll call you in a few... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hey Gang. That's my upper Mike is talking about. Other than a picture I haven't seen it yet myself. I should be home from Kuwait around the end of May and I'll put the whole rifle together and get some pictures on here. I can definitely say one thing right away though, if you want something done with your rifle and there's a way to do it, Mike is willing to work with you. We went back and forth on this one for about 3 months and every little thing I asked for he was able to deliver....at, IMO, a very reasonable price as well. Thanks, Mike. I'd heard you were the guy to build a custom AR and now I know why.
