New York adopted the national assault weapons ban in full with no sunset. You can still own a nice AR but there are a couple restrictions. No flash hider. The muzzle brake has to be pinned and welded. No collapsible stock, it must be pinned. 10 rounds is the most a magazine can hold except you can still use normal capacity 20 and 30 round mags if they were made before the ban. You can not use a suppressor even if you have a fed tax stamp and no automatics period. For coyote hunting your are restricted to mags that hold max 5 rounds with 6th in chamber. Check here for more info: http://www.nysrpa.org/nygunlaws.htm
Good luck

Very good info here!
I've sold a couple AR's to NY residents recently, mainly upstate.
Gotta correct a couple of errors given to you. You can have ANY mag of ANY capacity as long as it was made BEFORE the ban. You CAN have a flash hider, a bayonet lug, AND a collapsible stock IF the lower receiver was made prior to the ban.You DO however need a five round mag ONLY when you are hunting.
First, I would HIGHLY recommend you spend some time at www.ar15.com It's a GREAT site with TONS of AR info. I've been a member for 10 years. Secondly, yes, you could call the manufacturer. Bushmaster is VERY helpful with this. THere is a list from ar15.com. Remember, this is for general info purposes ONLY and you really should check with the manufacturer. I can't find it right now, but when I do, I'll post the link for you. On the lighter side, there isn't a single LEO in NY in my opinion that can tell the difference!
