Well, finaly got away to get after them. Been gone since last Thursday hunting. Took this big coyote. I liked the color on this one realy well. I think I will have this one tan and keep it!(River this one is on its way to you!) Very dark, lots of black and has a nice white face and throat patch. He came down an old strip mine flat out of a big thicket. Took him with a blackpowder rifle at 100 yards. Powerbelt pushed by 90 grains of powder. He stoped with a bark perfect, had a old strip mine pond behind him and put his front feet up on an old blowed down pine tree. First blackpowder kill on film.

Anyone care to take a gess on the weight of this male? For referance on the length of the coyote im 5'6" tall. I know im short!

Do you have one of those fancy digital scales like Byron South? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

KKY I also forget to mention that is a great looking coyote.

Yeller I added a 50# spring scale to my carry box for this year. Our goal is to bottom it out.... one coyote at a time.

Man you could almost call that a wolf! Could it have bred with a wolf or another kind of dog, Of course I am in the west so our dogs are smaller!

keekeeyelp - That is a good looking big dog. I think its cool that you took him with your muzzle loader. Bet he didn't go far as it looks like you made a good shot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice looking coyote there Keekee. I have noticed that alot of the eastern guys really like the darker colored coyotes while alot of the western guys are always looking for that nice pale yote. Here , alot of the coyotes are grey, dark grey , and alot of them have a redish tint to them.
Anyway, good shooting and keep up t he good work.

Nice dog KeeKee, took this one Monday... he weighed 42# if that helps you any. Too bad his shoulder was blown out... would've made a fine pelt!

Kee, very pretty dog. I'd say goes 40 lb.

Crapshoot, if you were to see how many ugly mottled colored dogs roamed Ohio then you would know that this coyote, though dark in complextion, is a very fine specimen for our region. Not overly red, nice tail quailty, color even throughout the body with a good looking well defined saddle. A keeper from the Buckeye state. According to a furrier in NYC I spoke with Ohio dogs aren't much for the garment industry except for trim pieces. Oh for a chance to snag one of those beautiful silver haired trophies in the Northern Rockies.

35# is all well maby more but not much . nice looking yote i have a pic of one i shot is swwva last spring i can e-mail you .
