Night hunting alone?

I don't know your terrain, but snake boots are a must. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't around. If nats and mosquitoes are an issue, I'd highly recommend a thermocell. They are amazing. Otherwise aside from your hunting gear bring a spare flashlight and batteries, and a side arm. If you carry too much it becomes cumbersome. thought I'd ask....was thinking about purchasing the thermocell? Reviews were good, but never used it, even when deer hunting.....would you give it a thumbs up?

Almost always hunt alone (65yr.old)& mosly at night.
Snakes & big critters are not a problem here (SW PA)in the winter & mostly not in the warmer months. Other people on the roads I park on are what gets my attn.. Though I am armed, I am still looking & apprehensive when getting back to my ride in the middle of the night & in the middle of nowhere (lots of drugs in my rural area)!
I always leave a list or text with my wife or good buddy where I am going to be & if it is a txt to my buddy I txt him when I get back home. I forgot this step once this winter & was woke up by my phone ringing at 6:eek:oam by him checking on me. Made me feel good that he did but I had just got to sleep & some times that could be way to late of a "check on" when it is 0 outside but makes the wife feel "at ease".
I also leave a placard on my dash stating my name & what I am doing. Local law likes this.

Thermacell is imperative in mosquito season here. In deer season...if I get all the way to my stand and forgot the thermacell, I'll go back home. Summer time coyote hunting at night...same thing, I won't hunt without it.

Yes! I would give it two thumbs up. I'm in SC and mosquitoes are horrible in the warmer months. After you turn the thermocell on you will not have any around after 3-5 mins, which is usually before the mosquitoes find you. Sure, you have to buy consumables- small butane cylinders (which you can refill apparently, but I haven't done it) and scent pads, but it's much more effective than the traditional spray.

I move around too much for the Thermocell. A mesh mosquito suit sprayed with Permethrin is the way to go IMO.

Fair enough, I move a lot too and mine still works fine. I have one of the suits like that- well, only the top. This probably doesn't make much since because its mesh, but I swear it doesn't breath well and I end up getting all hot and sweaty.
