Night hunting: Dog instead of light?

Ok boys, It's almost middle of August and in a little more than a month the crops will start coming out and the nights will begin to cool a bit. Thats when the hunt begins.

I've tried daytime callin here in Iowa without much success. I'd like to try callin at night but here in Iowa he can't use lights .

That is a tough one. If you take a dog out calling at night without a light he WILL get nailed. You would be better off using a large decoy and making sure you have atleast 100 yards in each direction to see them. At night they tend to come in faster and harder. Most of the time you will not have much trouble hearing them, but some will sneak in. If I were you I would go out calling without the guns but with lights and get an idea. STRETCHING??? I love it. Many stretch. Some place you can use lights on private land. Most of the stretching is in the form of shooting from vehicles, and they do get caught from time to time. Its a bad idea to get your self going down the wrong road. I would not hand call, instead I'd have the call about 25 yards in front of you and a decoy on top of the call. You can also try calling with pauses to help you hear better. Calling at night is a blast, I hike all the time at night and see coyotes before I get my light on them. You may want to find a very low power 50mm scope to help you see, a 12ga will come in handy also. If you go out and hunt at night you will have fun. Snow would help greatly. Yes there was more and I can't argue with the Mod's position. I can see his position on parts of the post. But he did remove the main question that had nothing to do with the subject matter in question. So I'll repost it.

I live and hunt in Iowa. We cannot use lights for hunting at night. Coyotes around here tend to be very jumpy and do not respond well to calls during the daytime. My question was: Does anyone use a dog at night for Coyote hunting? Not as a decoy dog but mearly to take advantage of their better ears and eyes. Keeping them on a leash and close to keep them from getting chewed up by Mr. Coyote(s).

Oh well in that case then i agree with the mod. for his decision. He knows what is best for the forum. Maybe Try very early in the morning just as light is breaking the horizon. Also maybe the yotes are so jumpy causing people are blowing their calls to loud if the air is still. try blowing a softer call, and maybe with some luck a yote will be more comfortable with responding.
