night time coon calling tips

I've had great luck using high pitched birdy sounds from a variety of mouth-blown calls (Sceery AP-6 & AP-7, Mini-Blaster & a couple of others), but I've never had them respond as well as they do to the Raccoon Fight sound that I have loaded on my Foxpro. On a few ranches I have access to where there's quite a bit of water I KNOW I could kill 20 coons per night if I played that sound at every stand. I've had multiples running in from different directions on several occassions. I've even had them run off only to return to check out the source of the sound again. I'm not a big coon hunter, but it's FUN to watch and they are a nice alternative if the calling is ever slow on the fox or cats! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Take care and God Bless,

Djdj,
Did you sit far enough away from the denning tree to make them come looking for the sound instead of just peeking out?
As I said before, sit to close to the tree they den in and all you will succeed in doing is having them peek out at you from their tree.

I set up on an open bean field about 80 yards away from the den trees at the first set, next set I set up down creek from the wood pile I have seen coon in before, and the other stands I set up out on wheat fields about 100 yards off the den trees.

Try to reverse your setups. Instead of sitting 80-100 yards away out in the open move 80-100 yards into the woods.
Find yourself an area that is open enough to allow a shot when they come. With the leaves on the ground you will hear them coming quite easily. They don't sneak in like a cat and often chatter as they come in.
Above all else don't give up. When you finally figure out the key to make them come in it is a very satisfying feeling.
Good luck on your next outting!
