Night time Shotgun Rig

I was thinking about putting a Shotgun Rig together for nights and was wondering what your Favorite Rig is? Pic's would be nice. Thanks Jeff

If I get real serious about it, I put a tasco pro-point sight atop my 10 gauge and then shoot 2 1/4 oz of lead BB's.

Otherwise, I just tape a small bobber light glow stick (the kind guys use for ice fishing) right in front of the regular bead. That works pretty well too.

I carry an 835 also topped with a Tasco Pro Point. I would do some patterning with BB or Dead Coyote, even #4 buck where legal. With the factory Ulti-Full tube BB works great for me.You can see the gun and a victim on page 4 of the Predator Hunting forum. This makes a fairly safe rig for open or urban calling as opposed to a rifle. The only down side I can see is muzzle blast. Calling between midnight and sunrise can make you some enemies if there are houses very near the site. Here in western Pa, there is a house in sight or just out of sight on most stands. I just feel safer with shot or a .22 mag as opposed to my .223 or .22-250. I like to call old Mossy the Sledge Hammer. And that works at both ends.

I use an 835, 4 shot for fox. I wear a nite-Lite Tracker head lamp with red lens. It takes a bit to get used to wearing your hat so that your light is in the right location for shooting. I find this to be my best way.

Hey catman823, I am going to purchase a Night Light tomorrow evening! Does the tracker do a good job of lighting the way? I am considering the Tracker or maybe the Wizard 2. I hunt alone most of the time, and holding the Mag Light and the forearm of a gun in my left hand is getting old. I have a touch of the carple tunnel in my left hand, and the cold combined with holding the light is taking it's toll. Especially the 835! How is the fox sign down there? Lots of sign here. Just waiting on the wind to die down right now.

I use an 870SP with 3" 4's and since I am a coon hunter I use my 20 volt Bandit light. It is nice and light only 2 lbs. and very bright but the down side is that you can only use it on low side because on high side it gets so hot that it will melt the red lense on one stand. But it is just as bright on low as most lights are on high. I burn my light constantly on stand. I just drape the cord around my neck and shine with my left hand and when I get a fox in I just lay my gun across my left arm and shoot. Get a pretty rough kick from shooting 3" mag one handed but it's really not that bad and actually is a pretty nice rest. Don't think I would want to try it with the 835 though. But it is my opinion only that you really don't need the 3-1/2" mag. I have killed fox at 55 steps with my 3" mag. I don't mean shoot them and spend half hour looking for them I mean bang flop dead. Just my opinion. Good hunting.

I have both the tracker and the wiz 2 light I use the tracker 90% of the time. There is not much difference between them, and they both work great. Other than having to wear your hat crooked so you can see down your barrel to shoot they are great. I used to use a 4V wheat light, and the tracker is much much brighter.

I have a simmons redot on my berretta a391 semi. I shot 3"bb out of it and anyfox within 40yds will be dead. also this makes for a awesome turkey gun out to 60yds with hevishot.

i use a mossberg 835 with #2 hevi shot. It recently got an undertaker sight on top, with a green front bead and an orange circle in the back, when compined with a lightweight hand light, you cant beat it. Just line the eyes up in the circle.

Varmint Nut,
The type of shining your doing is real similar to mine.
Wanted to ask you about your light head, have you ever found the need to rig up some sort of light hood to extend the beam out further so critters cant see your arm movements?
My Nitelite Predator has the rheostat on it so bright lite arm movements arnt generally an issue. I can dim the high side bulb down to nill if they are shy.
Just wondering if youve ran into this before, thanks.
