NIght vision?

The one ATN product I have looked at was advertised as a gen 3 tube. I already owned a gen 3 PVS-14 monocular I baught from VIC and all I can say is WOW. How in the heck they get by advertising that as Gen 3 I have no idea. At best I would put it in the catagory of Gen 2 (not even Gen 2+).

In my opinion (for what it is worth), ATN, Night Owl, and all the other "mass publicized" (Cabelas, Cheaper than Dirt, etc) are all way over rated. They are sold to an un-educated public that has never really seen quality NV gear. The scenario above seems to be the norm. for those products.

If you are going to spend that kind of money, get the D740 and be done with it.

Edited for you to read this link.

Night Vision Q/A

Good enough, I have wanted night vision for a very long time. However, I know nothing about it so I wouldn't know where to begin as far as quality goes. Where can I get a D740?

Zach

Edit: I found a site that shows a D740 Gen 2+ for $1900, a D740 Gen 3 for $3400-$3750, D760 Gen 2+ for $2050, and D760 Gen 3 for $3650-$4000

I know nothing about night vision; so which one do I really need?

PM Victor_TNVC or check out his web site. He also has a site under his tag line.
He can send you pics of all of them so you can decide.
The 740 is a 4X scope and the 760 is a 6X scope. The power is up to you.
I prefer the D740 for 2 reasons:
A little lighter and I have no need for 6X scope night hunting.

I think the Gen 2+ will serve you well, but the diffrence between Gen 3 and Gen 2+ is like looking through a Bushnel scope and then a Khales (or Loupold, Swarovski, etc). The diffrence in clarity is worth the extra $ for me.

Thought I would post a recent customer hunt report a customer just sent me! Enjoy....

Victor asked me a while back to post pics of the pigs I am hunting in south Texas, while using the fine equipment I purchased from him.

I had been remiss to do so lately, but I shot an especially fine hog the other night, and without the Torch VBF, I never would have gotten this one! I was hunting in the River bottom, with my GF, and she had already shot one about an hour earlier. There is such a thick canopy of trees at my place, that if there is no moon, it is very dark down in there. On nights like that, without the Torch, a PVS-14, Gen III still only allows you to see detail at around 75 or so yards. I like to place my shots carefully, and so I like to see the parts of the animal at which I am shooting. This night was cloudy and pitch dark.

A hog came in to the food plot I was "protecting," intending to root up the precious deer-food there, and he was obviously big, but without the Torch all I could make out was a big, black blob as he came towards us. I turned on the VBF and adjusted the beam out to get maximum reach. Once he stopped and put his head forward, I could easily see details of his head, neck and his ear (which was where I wanted the bullet going). So, when he got to about 150 yards out, I launched a 110 grain Sierra Pro Hunter right behind his ear. THWOP....DRT

This setup just plain works:

ANPVS-14 (w 3x magnifier) behind Eotech 552 D1, with Da Torch VBF, mounted on my VLTOR CASV-M, in the 1 O'clock position. The Ko-Tonics 6.8 SPC upper is light enough that the whole rig still only weighs about 8lbs. Not bad at all, even when carrying it.

Thumbs up to ya' my man....

Hey Vic,

I just checked out your website and it looks like you have a typo. Under the Binocular sections it says the binocs cost $8,129. You might want to get that fixed. Please do your best to tell me they are suppose to be like $812.90 LOL

Do not tell me they are truly 9 grand. Although, like any hunter with an addiction, I'll be in touch in a few months with a PO# and a stack of Benjimans.

Vic,
Not to hijack this thread but how long will a 760 scope last? I thought I read somewhere that NV equipments have a life span. And how much will it cost to rebuild/refurbished?

Hi, sorry for the delay posting...I just got back from the Shot Show.

Actually, not the 760 itself, but a Gen 3 intensifier tube will last 10,000 hours on the average. I have NOT had one returned yet that a user has used up the tube life! ;-)

Gen 2 systems have a life expectancy of 2500hrs
Gen 2 SHP (Super High Performance) at 5000hrs
Gen 1 at 1000-1500hrs

Hope this helps.

Vic
