Night Vision

I am new to night hunting, and thinking about a night vision scope but I have a few questions.
How far out can you make positive I.D. on a predator with Gen 2 and 3?
What are the drawbacks of Night Vision scopes other than cost?
How well do they stay on zero, are they like a typical scope?
Thanks VLYoter

I have a ATN generation 3 day, night vision scope on my Bushmaster varminter. It will switch from night vision to day vision in about 15 seconds. You just push a button on the side of the scope and swap the day vision lens to the night vision lens. It also has a detachable infared illuminator. On moonlit nights the infared illuminator is not necessary, but on pitch black nights I use it. It also illuminates the animal's eyes just like a spot light. I have shot 3 inch groups of a bipod at 300 yards during the daytime.e with this set up. This scope is the 80 mm objective lens with 40 mm tube. If you check ATN's websight this set up is $4695. Mine is in perfect condition and I will sell it with the Pelican case for $3900. The crosshairs are illuminated if you turn them on both day and night. On pitch black nights you can identify and kill your game out to between 150 and 200 yards. Before I mounted it on my rifle I would sometimes sit in a shooting house all night long and just watch game all night long. Buy it, you will never be disappointed.
