Looking at getting a new nikon for shooting coyotes in Ga. What are the distances you would wanna use these out to? Which one would work better on a AR 223 carbine?

I only own 1 3-9 and that's only because I havnt replaced it yet. I have yet to find a hunting situation where a 3-9 was as good as a 4-12. when magnification is needed more is better, and the bottom end is still low enough for close up.

Pretty much sums it up for me too. However, the terrain is wide open where I'm from, in closer cover I might go smaller, esp on a carbine.

I second that!

Love the Prostaff's - I have one 3-9x40 & two 4-12x40's - I would go with the 4-12x40BDC. I mostly shoot targets in the less than 200 yard range. It's nice to be able to spot without a seperate spotting scope. The differnce on low power 3 vs. 4 is minimal. The BDC website is a cool tool to run data on; then go out and see how close the actual drops are.
