im looking at a monarch 3 with the bdc reticle. those of you that have this reticle, how do you like it? it looks kind of "busy" for lack of a better term.

thanks all sb

I've got a monarch 6-24x50mm it's a bdc reticle and i'm not crazy about it I don't see how shooting with circles can be but so accurate long range.

I also have a vx-2 and it's brighter and clearer, I know nikons are very popular but I was expecting a little more when I purchased it.

The BDC reticle does take a little getting used to but what I really like about them is that I can run the Nikon Spot-On Ballistics App and take the guess work out of holdover as I've found as long as you put in accurate/correct info into the app the drop charts it generates to apply to the circles for your particular ammo, factory or handloads, is quite accurate.

I gotta agree with these guys. I have one on my deer rifle, and don't like it at all. It is very busy and distracting. Probably will get rid of it at some point.

I have a Monarch with the bdc on a pd gun and have no problems with it so far, used it for 3 years so far. I don't know.....maybe I'm the odd duck, But when I see some of these high end scopes with the 500 hashmarks on the reticle I can't believe you can even see them clearly in the field... those look insane to me!

I agree,it works and does not distract me. Just be sure to plug in the right info.

I absolutely hate the thing. I have the 6x24x50 and the reticle is too darn thick to be useful as a varmint scope. That's what I get for buying the thing unseen.

removed my Nikon Coyote Special BDC 4.5-14x40 and got the Leupold VX6 3-18x50 Matte Fire Dot straight cross hair with center dot illuminator......scope was to busy and retical to thick as described above at night for hunting IMO......good luck!

I agree that the BDC reticle wouldn't be the best choice for varmint hunting or long range precision shooting but for my deer/hog/coyote guns I really like my BDC reticles, especially since I make full use of the Nikon Spot-On Ballisitic Match Technology. It tells me exactly what yardage each circle is good for and makes hold over so simple and it's a really nice feature to use with the BDC scopes.

BTW......I have a Nikon Monarch 6-24X50 side focus scope on my varmint gun, a 20 Practical, but it has the fine cross hairs and small dot and it's my most favorite scope by far.

I took my Monarch BDC scope off my 700 30-06 last year and put it on my Marlin 30-30, it is now going to come off that gun and just get sold. I don't like them at all! My kid has a M-223 BDC scope on his AR, and that is coming off and getting sold also, he hates it and talked about using it for a target, but decided to sell it to someone who wanted to part with some hard earned cash.
We switched to Leupolds now.
