Nikon Coyote Special

Should be easy enough to zero the reticle. The 1st circle is 3 MOA in diameter. Just use the lower part of the 1st circle where the vertical line intersects it, and adjust the scope until the bullet hits 1.5" higher for a 100-yd. zero. If u like the PBR system of ~1.5" high at 100 then zero the gun as above until the group is centered at the top of the 1st circle (all of this at the optic's highest power).

The problem that i see with the reticle is that when u crank the optic down to 3x (3-9), the center circle increases in size (subtension) to a whopping ~9 MOA. But the advantage to this is that if you're zeroed for about 1.5" high at 100, with most fast stepping centerfires, the lower part of the 1st circle should be on at about 400 AT 3-4x (~4 MOA).

For the BDC to be accurate. The scope must be set at 9x.

I leave it at 9x when I'm calling. As they come closer I can adjust down. I hunt with a buddy. One of us always carries a shotgun. If they are comming in, we let them. We use the rifle only when they hang up.

Its interesting to hear how guys set their scopes. I usually set it at the lowest setting unless I need to take a longer shot. Preferences I guess

Well I really like my 4.5 to 14 for hunting here in Colorado. Have it mounted on a AR, Have used the new SPOT ON software from nikon and works really well. Printed a sheet for 4.5, 9, 14 taped on scope.
