Nikon Monarch or Bushnell Elite 4200

+1

Never owned or saw a 4200 that was not gin clear. I have Zeiss, Leupold, Nikon, Redfield, Burris and other scopes on my rifles. If I had to start all over again I would be quite happy to mount a 4200 on everything and call it good. My most accurate long range rifle in my safe wears a 6-24X 4200 on it. And it is on there for reason.

I have been looking at the same 2 myself.
Why would you lean toward the 4200?

The glass in both are very comparable in sharpness, contrast & clarity.

Bushnell has the raingard coating

Nikon has better constant eye relief

Windage & elevation adjustments is about equal comparing similar power models, Nikon has more in the 2.5-10x power, Bushnell more in the 4-16x power

Nikon has a better warantee and is transferable, Bushnell warantee is to original purchaser only

Nikon Monarch prices average $30-$50 less than Bushnell 4200 prices for comparable power scopes

I have owned both Monarchs and 4200s and have been happy with both. If I could only have one brand between the two I'd give the nod to thea Nikon Monarch.

I also own several Zeiss Conquests and would rate Zeiss over both Nikon & Bushnell.

It sure is better, you will not notice this in the store, in the field is where it's at.

What poor warranty? They have a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY. If your friend was denied, it must have been his fault. Nikon will cover anything but
Quote: This warranty shall not apply to the following:
1. Any product that has been subject to abuse, misuse, neglect, alteration, abnormal use or accident.
2. Any defects or damage directly or indirectly caused by the use of unauthorized replacement parts and/or service performed by unauthorized personnel.
As for not sponsoring a wolf hunt. I have seen nothing that shows they disagreed with the hunt. Like most companies they have to tighten their belt in this poor economy. They are not the government they can't print money. Sponsor money comes out of their advertising budget. I see a lot of people saying boycott Nikon. Their money helps pay for this forum. How far are you willing to take a boycott. To me it doesn't make sense to bash them for a business disission. Without people like them this forum wouldn't be here.

i use both, very slight nod to the 4200; especially in foul weather and dawn/dusk. as far as waranty goes, i would give leupold the nod, but the glass is still slightly better in the 4200 until you get to the higher $ leupys. if you want to spend vx-7 or vx-l money you would probably be better served by a zeiss....in the end if i had to start all over, i would probably have a 4200 on every gun i owned. hope this helps.
edit--> i would have a 4200 on almost every gun i owned, weaver's fixed power scopes are exceptional quality for the money as well; maybe not for varmints, but they definetly have their place.
