Nikon optics?

I just got some Nikon Action 8x40 binoculars and am very satisfied with this product.
Therefore, I am thinking of a Nikon Buckmasters 4x40 scope for my next rifle. Maybe a
Remington 700 ADL in .243 Win. Does anyone have a Nikon scope? How do you like it?

I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40. I love this scope. I like it better than the leupolds and its only half the price. Best $200 I ever spent.

I just laid down the cash on Nikon Monarch 5.5x16.5. I should have it this week since i ordered it. Pretty excited, i feel that this scope is as good as the Leupold Varix3 and cost me $150 less. I was going to get the Buckmaster, but for an extra $100 on a scope that will last me a lifetime, i said heck with it. I looked at this scope a lot before buying it and go recommended by a premier gunsmith that builds target rifles for some big wigs. I think the Buckmaster is also a great scope for the money. I have never heard anything bad about a Nikon.

I have a couple of Nikon Monarchs on my two coyote guns. They are really nice scopes that really gather in the light at dawn & dusk. Great scopes.

dogcatcher223,

I regret ever parting with my 5.5-16.5 Monarch. Darn fine scope for the money. I've also found the Bushnell/B&L 4200 Elite scopes to be of exceptional quality as well. The Monarch is not as long as the 4200 so I think it will look better on most rifles.

If you're interested in a Nikon scope I wouldn't give it a second thought. Pick the one you like and I doubt you'll have any regrets.

Hoosier, i paid $356 shipped for the Monarch. I think i got a good deal on it. Should have it this week. Puting it on a 243 after i get it back from the smith with its new matte finish and trigger job.

Don't waste your money on the Buckmaster! The Monarch is a different story,I think it is outstanding. I have not owned a Buckmaster but When looking at it on the shelf, you might as well buy a Bushnell Banner and save some money. Find someone who carrys Sightron and take a look. You might find you like it. IMHO

I recently bought a Remington 700 BDL in 22-250, put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 its by far the best scope i've ever used and the local gun dealer really advised it, try it out you won't be disappointed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I tried a Buckmaster awhile back. It crapped the bed almost immediately. Less than 50 rounds sitting on a 10/22 and the erector tube was flopping like a rag doll. Took it back where I bought it (where I happen to buy a lot of such items) and tossed it on the counter. The owner of the store just looked over his glasses at it and said "another one of THOSE huh?". Then he gave me my money back. Didn't even ask me if I wanted another Buckmaster. Then he told me he gets more of them back like that than any other scope he sells. Nice optics for the price, but total crap mechanically.

I have a 6.5-20 Nikon Monarch on my 16.5 pound 1000 yard Benchrest gun.I have a 8.5-25 Leupold LR on my heavy gun.....To me the nikon is as bright and clear as the Leupold.......

I am an unapolgetic Leupold-lover. I visit the Leupold plant often; the product and the folks are THE BEST.

There is no way I will ever personally own anything but a Leupold. In my defense, trust comes slowly for old farts like me. I've hunted at minus-30° several times with Leupolds. I've used them while riding mules and horses; I've used them on the hotter-than-Hell Kalahari where I friggin' near died of thirst (is a Rowland Ward gemsbok really worth it?).

I've owned hundreds of Leupolds and I've never had one fail; nor have I ever seen one fail, even while I spent eleven years guiding elk hunters in Hell's Canyon.

The Leupold will not fail and if readers call me prejudiced, so be it. I'm not about to gamble a five thousand dollar hunt (often more), just for the opportunity to use a different brand of scope.

OK, having said that, in my writing, I've tested two custom rifles lately that came equipped with Nikon scopes. In both cases, the Nikon scopes worked admirably; they were very clear and the adjustments were perfect. I would use one on varmints or predators and have no regrets.

On big game, where it really counts, I'd still use a Leupold, but that's just my opinion.

Well, i have a Leupold that has seen less than 500 rounds and it failed. Sent it back last week. I went blurry and then showed double. So Leupolds are not full proof either. All I own is Loopy until this Nikon. I love them, but they will fail too, that is why they have the A+ warranty program. Nikon has only been making scopes since 1985, give them time to get the word out.

I have a Nikon Monarch 3-9 on my 22-250. We can't use spotlights to hunt here, and for the most part I don't have any problems picking out critters at night. I don't want to get involved on the Nikon/Leopold debate, but I am very happy with my Nikon. You won't be disappointed.

I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x50 on a Rem. 700 in .222 rem. It is a nice scope with clear glass. It gathers light well. It is a very nice scope. In my opinion you wont be unhappy.

I have a buckmaster 4x40 on an NEF 243 that I am extremely happy with so far.
This is the rifle the rides around in my truck all the time, just incase I have an unexpected opportunity to get some calling in. All the bumping around in my truck has not effected point of aim yet.
But all things considered my prarie dog rifles both wear mil-dot sightrons!

Sorry to have pissed off some folks. The message I was trying to relate was this: I love Leupolds but the Nikons I've used in article gun tests have really impressed me. I would say the same about Sightron.
