I'm on a $250.00 to $300.00 budget and was thinking of getting another Mueller 4-16x50 or a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 both are Mil-Dot like I want the Mueller being Illuminated I dont think I realy need a Illuminated Mil-Dot for hunting.

This would be a no-brainer to me. Nikon is a FAR better product. I have 5 Nikons at this time, and none of them has ever failed to hold zero or otherwise be un-reliable. OTOH, I have sent 3 Muellers back for replacement that lost their seal. While they were replaced immediately & without question, I still refuse to own a piece of equipment that I can't rely upon. There are folks who have used Mueller for extended periods without problems, but that wasn't my experience. JMO.

I have a couple of Muellers that I've had for a couple of seasons and I've had no problems with either... I bought them as they were priced at $150 each and I knew I would be putting them through some rough treatment (action matches).

My only experience with Nikon is in their cameras and binoculars. There is a big difference in the clarity of their camera lenses when compared with the results on film and I have a small pair of Nikon 8x25 binos that I've had for over 20 years that have been treated 'not too kindly' and they are still giving good service.

+1 on the nikons

i've own one prostaff, one buckmaster, and two monarchs and all of them are great scopes, very clear, and hold zero very well!

like Hidalgo said, i want something i can rely on, and i know is going to work everytime i go into the field.
