No guns...just a knife!

Has anybody else heard of this?
Apparently there is a hunt that goes on in Argentina where guides will take you out after wild boars. They persue these boars with a special breed of dog called a Dogo that I guess is like a pit-bull on steroids. They take four dogs who proceed to corner the boar, grabbing it by all four legs and hold it there until you arive. Then the hunter, YOU, are supposed to sneak around the back of the boar while the dogs hold, and you stick a knife in its vitals.
Talk about a RUSH! Anybody else heard of this?
I heard about it from a kid who lived in Argentina for a few years. I guess it is real!
What do ya'll think? What a rush eh?!

Well you don't need to go to South America to do that. I know of one old grizzled Texan named Randy Watson who done it in the USA. Maybe if he's done his nap, he'll tell you all about it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yeah it's just another way we hunt them down here. Seriously!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I still wanna hunt a blackie with a knife... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Isn't anything new in the south. I even know of a woman that killed a few with her trusty blade up in Georgia. But most of the local rednecks just catch them by hand and drag them home to fatten till there ready to eat them.

Yep, I've seen Watson's hog that's mounted on his wall and also saw the knife he killed it with. I think he was one of the first, if not the very first, to kill a hog that way on that particular ranch. I can only imagine what the guides, etc. were thinking when they saw him go after that hog with a knife!

I'd like to do it just to say that I did (if I lived through it.) I just wouldn't want my adrenaline to take over too much and end up sticking myself in the heat of the battle!! I can see the newspaper headlines now, "Hog Hunter Stabs Self in Leg, then gets Mauled by Hog". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

Been there and done that!! I was hog hunting in Northwest Texas near Post ( I graduated from Texas Tech so I did a lot of hunting up there) and the guides dogs had one bayed up within minutes. I was bowhunting and it was about 5am, and was too dark to see my sights so the guide handed me his huge fold out pocket knife and told me to just stab it in its heart. I looked at him as if he had three heads, lol... No turning back now...he said that he was going to grab it by its hind legs and flip it over and that is when I was to stab it. Well he did and I did, talk about a rush, WOW!! It was a hunt that I will never forget.

I hunt hogs with dogs and a knife often, I run Curs,Catahoula's, and will be getting me a catch dog later this week. It's reall not as scary as everyone leads on, yeah it's a rush and it doesn't get old, but it's really easy to do if you got the right dogs and know what your doing. I myself am quite new to the sport but it is something that I see myself doing for along time, to me there's nothing more gratifying then dispatching a big ol Boar with your bare hands and a few good dogs. Done properly the hog doesn't suffer at all and die's quickly with usually minor meat damage, of course you can always do as stated above and just catch them to feed out and eat, or even sell and make some easy money. I've got a few pics of some hogs we've stuck down in the photo gallery.
