Just went to the local gunshop to order a 10-22 magnum and the dealer called his distributor to check availability. He got off the phone and told me that the distributor says Ruger deleted the 10-22 magnum and that they haven't been able to get one in many months. It will no longer be made according to the distributor {I believe it was Ellet Bros.} He didn't actually say they were currently discontinued, he said "Ruger is not shipping any." Not much difference if you cant get one either way!! Anyone else heard anything about this???? I bought one two years ago at Greentop in Va., they had two in stock then but I cant find one now. Apparently Ruger hasn't shipped any in some time now as no one has them. Seems like they have always been hard to find, I would have thought they were more popular than this??? Anyone got a used one??? I have an FFL. Thanks.

The reason for the discontinuance of the 10/22Mag is the problem with the extractor, or stovepiping. When I mentioned the perceived reasons I've heard why they gun was discontinued (rumors), the woman set me straight claiming that it was the ongoing stovepiping problems.
They initially tried to remedy that by going to a dual extractor system on the bolt (older ones were singles), and when that didn't work, they discontinued them altogether. If you have trouble with a gun you currently own, they'll have you send it in, and if they can't fix it, they're offering an exchange program for a 10/77, even up.
You can exchange for other models, but you have to pay the difference is there is any.
I thought about just sending mine in, but they want a whack at fixing it first. I finally bought some custom parts (Power Custom extractor), and converted mine to a .17HMR. It's shooting flawlessly now. Too bad Ruger doesn't pay attention to the forums on the net. They'd figure out real quick how to fix a lot of issues with their guns by listening to the customers.
Apparently they think were all dummies.

Ruger has stopped producing the 10/22 mag. I have one of their early production guns. I never shot it much because it had trouble ejecting unfired rounds. I'd have to get them out with my knife. Anyways, I was thinking of converting it to .17 HMR and read on a web site that Ruger had a fix for by installung a second ejector which required replacing the bolt and cuting a second ejector grove in the barrel.
Last May I sent it back to Ruger, they sent a card saying it would be returned in a few weeks. Well I did not it received until October. This was after many, many calls to them, and many promises of delivery. Was I [beeep]. I thought their service was terrible. And I use to like Rugers, with that service I'll never buy another Ruger. But in the process I learn form Ruger that they stopped producing the 10/22 Mag. Even though the second ejector fixed the problem.
Another thing that [beeep] me off was I had installed a Vol. match trigger. Ruger will not service and return one of their guns with out stock parts in it. So this only caused more of a delay because they had to inform me of their policy and remove and replace the trigger components. We all know how easy it is to work on 10/22's. Anyways they return the Vol. trigger parts with the gun and I had to redo the trigger mod a second time.
I guess I should not complain too much! I purchased this gun for $350.00 for a club raffle in 2002? When I was transferring the gun to the winner, he mention he had won four guns that year in raffles and wasn't sure if he wanted it. I dropped a $100.00 bill on the table and the gun was mine. I still plan to do the conversion to .17 HMR when I have the cash.

Welcome wachtelhund1.........Purchase a Valquartson "exact edge" extractor, and a plastic bolt buffer. I had the same problem with my stock ejector, and with these 2 cheap modifications, my 10/22 magnum runs flawlessly.
Stock ejector is junk, and with the Valquatson ejector, there is no need for the 2nd "ejector" which did nothing to help anyway.
Try it, as the gun is well worth your effort.

Hi Sleddogg, Thamks for the welcome. The gun works flawlessly and Ruger although being slow fixed it for free. Plus I want to put a Lilja? .17 HMR barrel on and they will only provide converison barrels for the two ejector bolt.
