Noob night hunter questions (lights)

Those colored glass filters block quite a bit of light. I have a red one on me Streamlight Stinger, the flip-up style. For better results try the gel sheets for stage lighting. They are very thin, you have to cut them and place them between the lens and reflector. They let quite abit more light through.

Well I ordered some lights today. Went with the spiderfire 900 lumen from solar force. Got the light, some filters, batteries, charger, mount, and a headlamp with batteries and charger for $97. Not too bad I guess. Hope they get here soon my trigger finger is itching to try some night hunts.

I have a G4, 802 and a red led 501. Only the 501 has an OP reflector. It was only $10 bucks and works fine out to 100 yards. Should pick up eyes much farther. I plan to scan with it or use it on a shotgun. I wouldn't buy a light for the rifle with a OP reflector. Smooth reflectors are used in lights labeld as dedicated throwers. The nice thing about these lights is they are cheap and great for other uses.

Thanks for the heads up. Cancelled my order. Going to go with the highly recomended G4 and the $20 head lamp. Cheaper too!

Just re-did my order. Went with the famous $20 head lamp, the 600 lumen G4, and the ultrfire 501 (red) for my shotty. Got a few extra batteries, charger, and two mounts from solarforce. Grand total $95. Spent less, got more. Thanks for all the tips everyone!

I have used the Stage Lighting Gels on my LED lights, works great. One thing I thought of that I have not heard anyone talk about, is the fact that most Illuminated scopes are just red.(most Scopes) So I went with GREEN Gels. I have a 1500 LUMIN scaning light mounted on a camera tripod. Plus I hunt at night with AR-15's found they are more versitle for putting lights on. So I have one super expensive LED Light C4 Cree LED(230 Lumin) and it works just as good as my cheep China 1000 Lumin light. All in all they work great. Just have alot of gear to take with at night. The big scanning light and the 1000 lumin rifle light came from: HIDcountry.com and I have had no issues with either.

Colors dogs can't distinguish
Actually the color spectrum made up of wavelengths of light is the same to all of us. Only the perception of those colors can be quite different. As dogs only have two different color receptors in their eyes they have problems to distinguish certain colors:

Red - Orange - Green
Greenish Blue - Gray
Different shades of Purple

The list is not completed and there are a lot of different shades which can't be differentiated if you are colorblind. And the conclusion is dogs can see colors but are at the same time colorblind.

While Humans see the rainbow- ROYGBIV- Red orange yellow green blue indigo violet

Dogs actually see- RYYYBIV- red yellow yellow yellow blue inigo violet
Orange, yellow and green look all the same
to a dog
and BLUE- GREEN is seen as WHITE by a dog
