Norma loaded ammo, Antique stuff???

I have a box of Norma loaded 6.5x55 cartridges that apears very old.

I can't find a date on it but the lot number is 16552.

The ammo is 156 grain soft point round nose. It's a funny looking round with a very long bullet.

I know it's a milsurp Sweedish caliber. I also know that some people pay a lot of money for old ammo in the original box. Do I have something here?

17shooter,

It stuck!

I've never seen steel bullets, it does have lead in the tip though.

The primer has a NP stamped on it. The N & P are joined together as one letter.

??????

no there are not steel. If my memory serves me right, and it is failing rapidly, they have a nickel alloy in them. perfectly safe to shoot and they have lead cores. Just wish i had been there when u tried it.lol

the np stands for Norma Precision

The 6.5 x 55 is an extremely good whitetail cartridge. I have been using one for the last several yrs. In a remington classic. I am not sure about the collector value. I ran across a box like you described a few yrs back and pulled the bullets to load some 120 ballistic tips in the brass. I prob could have hunted with them. Maybe you can find a cartridge collector. I also have about 30 7x61 shape and hart loaded norma cartridges. they also are magnetic. let me know how you fare on finding a collector

Cool! I just pulled out two boxes of factory Norma 6.5x55 139 grain semi-pointed soft point boattails. The bullets stick to a magnet too. These are the last two remaining boxes I inherited with the rifle. Boxes date from about 1970, and the inside cardboard shell holders are stamped 05927 in purple ink. Retail price was $5.29 a box, and unprimed brass was $2.50. Is the purple stamped number the lot#?

yes

also if you were to cut one of the bullets it will look more brassy than copper. must be the alloy mix they used

Ok. I just cut one of them with a cut off blade on a dremel. the core removed from the jacket and the jacket will stick to a magnet. Not sure what the material is. I have tried to do a search and cant come up with it. I am taking a bullet to a machine shop to get it sectioned. will report back tonight. Meanwhile If anyone knows what it is. exactly, let us know. I didnt get any sparks with the dremel disc. so that tells me there was no steel, en-masse, (is that a word).

man I dont know that answer. My wife pays big bucks for plates, that we cant eat off of. go figure. there is probably someone that will want them. are they uncommon? yes. are they rare? not really. In a good box, there are collectors that will pay for them. Have you looked for any collectors with a search on google.
