hey guys, im new here but ive hunted my whole life. i have a soft spot for coyote, bobcat, and fox hunting:) and i would like to hear from other bama boys and hear what tactics they use, especially in northern bama. i have found that in my terrain that a shotgun is ideal, even in some open hillsides it still works great! just call them into the woods.

so what do you guys use and is there an alabama predator hunting meet or group?

thanks guys

hey how are you doing! welcome to the forums!

im from boaz, alabama. and right now i have been hunting predators for a few months, but had GOOD success in calling them! i like to hunt woods mainly. i feel thats where they feeel they are the safest. i guess my favorite type of place to hunt is harwood hollars and draws. but i LOVE to get in the thick stuff and try to call a fox to me! i use cottontail, bird and HIGH pitched rodent ditress. i use a shotgun w/ nuber 4 buckshot. but i am going to start using my new 22-250 as soon as it gets in!

where are you from? and have you hunted predators for a while? shoot me a pm if you like and we can talk about hunting them!
GOD BLESS
Luke

yeah i called my first coyote in when i was 17yrs old( im 27 now), so ive been predator hunting for 10 yrs or so. i actually shot my first coyote when i was 14. i was squirrel hunting with my browning 22 leveraction and a coyote comes running thru the woods....i got lucky and shot her in the head, down she went:).....and i was hooked.

ill shoot you a pm.

hello and welcome to the forum. nice to hear from someone local who is hunting predators also. i live in dekalb county. i've been hunting predators for about six years. i hunt some private land and public land also. i see you've already met bamayote23. i've been taking luke hunting with me some this year. unfortunately, haven't been able to put the fur on him yet.

i've had a decent season so far. i started calling in early september. been putting in somewhere between 15-30 stands each week since. i can usually manage to get in a couple of stands before work and try to get at least a half day in on my day off. we've put in several full days.

i'm grabbing the shotgun more and more these days, and leaving the .243 in the truck. i'm also using mouth calls a little more and being less reliant on the e'caller. most of the predators i manage to see are right on top of me and moving. everything i've killed so far this year has been within 35 yds. i'm concentrating on staying inside the cover instead of trying to call them into the open. having a little more success that way.

i put in a lot of stands for each kill i make. but i manage to call in alot of coons, deer, dogs, hawks, owls etc that keeps thing interesting. so far this fall i've shot 4 coyotes and one gray fox. now that bobcat season is here, i'm concentrating on the bobcats, making longer stands and using higher pitched sounds. i really want a big tombob to go with the red fox, gray fox, and coon i have displayed in my house.

where you do most of your hunting. public or private land. have you been having a good season this year?

i hunt on mostly private land at our farm and in new market. i have hunted out at redstone arsenal, where i work, and theres alot of coyotes but theres also ALOT of rules to follow. so i mainly hunt our farm and this season has been slow compared to last year. from november till march last season i took 9 coyotes and 1 red fox, just off of the same 70 acres! this year ive only shot one coyote BUT he was with three others and i shot him while walking out of the woods after a rain. BUT the thing that topped it all was the fact that i took him wiht my favorite recurve at ground level!!

oh sweet! a coyote with a recurve at ground level. that's about as tough as it gets. congratulations on a very unique kill. i know you are proud of that one. any good public land out your way. most of the private land i hunt is off limits til after deer season. i've put in alot of stands on the public land within 1 1/2 hours of my house. need to stretch out a little. looking for somewhere fresh to hunt in a week or so.

we have swan creek, which is shotgun or rimfire only. and i hunt wheeler refuge for feral hogs but you can only hunt with shotgun or rimfire after deer/hog season. ive seen alot of coyote at wheeler though.

Hey guys, Im from Morgan Co. just getting started in the predator hunting sport. My yote killin so far has been during deer hunting, Ill take them that way too. It is good to hear from local folks.

In North Al here also. Been chasin coyotes the last 25 years. Good number of coyotes in North Al. Filmed most of our video here.My biggest problem is I don't have a lot of land access or time.

We still manage to call 40 to 60 a year here just takes more scouting of an area. Was pretty easy but as more callers get out there it makes it a little tougher.A year or so ago I never would meet another caller. Now I run into several a year and they all claim to have been doing it for many years.

Trying to get a hunt together to film in the next few weeks at Redstone.

Keep at it and you will get better and better at it.Just remember the more we keep it a secret in our area the longer the good ole days will last. This coyote hunting stuff is getting more and more popular in our area.

bamayote23, haven't forgotten about you buddy just been real busy filming Duck hunts. Will give you a buzz in the next few weeks.

Hey guys, I'm right in the middle of all of you. I live in Albertville. I have been predator hunting with a guy for a couple years off and on, but have just started calling this year by myself. I don't have access to a lot of land, but I'm game to hook up and hunt with most anyone as long as you don't start drinking adult beverages before or during the hunt. I love to kill vermin, but I don't want to get shot by an unsafe hunter in the process. I've got an e'caller, Mojo deke, and mouth calls, just need more places to go. PM me.

Brad

Yep, I bust crows from time to time myself. I still enjoy wingshooting them, but lately I've been plinking them with my 17 HMR. 125 yards or in, DRT.

It looks like we've got a good number of varmint hunters in this area. I've got a FoxPro and couple of varmint rifles, and I'm ready to go hunting. Just don't know where!
