Hi There,
I just got back from Montana hunting coyotes,been there few years in a row and always got lucky and harvest some.Never been in ND and was wandering how is the hunting going there in January for coyotes?I am not asking for anybody secret spot, but if you guys can point me a direction where to start i would really appreciated.I always go by myself rent a car find a logging meet new friends.

Coyotes can be found throughout the state, but the western half has more numbers, has better terrain and less hunting pressure as most of the human population of the state is in the Eastern half of the state (including myself). ND has a decent population of coyotes but it isn't crazy good in comparison to other states. Coyotes receive a fair degree of pressure because there are really only 2 main winter sports and that is ice fishing and coyote hunting. I consider Bismarck about the middle of the state, so anything West should be OK. Be prepared for brutally cold weather as in January you could see stretches of time where the temp doesn't get above -15 for highs. Also, getting around to decent terrain may be tough without a 4WD truck and make sure to take a shovel for sure. Unfortunately, I live in the East and don't want to drive 4+ hours every time I want to hunt, so this is about where my advice ends. I hear of lots of ND hunters going to MT to hunt coyotes but you don't hear much about MT hunters going to ND to hunt coyotes. That kind of implies MT has better coyote hunting but may not be the case. Hopefully, you do well. Good luck.
 
MT has more public land.

ND has some areas with good numbers, if you know how to recognize the situations that create consistent numbers.

The challenge is getting on private land.

The pressure is fairly heavy in most areas of the country right now.

I was thinking up north by Canadian boarder first,I know the winters can by hard, same as Montana,you just never know and to access some places can be very difficult.
Over the years Going to montana i got private ranches permission but it takes time,Like i said never been in ND and would like to see something new and i think ND is more open country.
So you guys saying that from Bismarck west, i look around there for any lodging and info.

Understand, I do not know from personal experience but I know a guy whose dad has a farm 2 miles from the Canadian border someplace in the Turtle mountains. He say the coyotes have absolutely taken over. They have almost no rabbits, grouse etc because of them . This is not wide open country like most of ND, a lot of trees and brush. He invited me but have not been able to swing it yet but said just find a cattail slough in any open area and there will be coyotes in it
 
Shoot me a pm when u get here. I live in Stanley and hunt the northwest corner of ND. Many of the landowners up here that post their land will let a guy on that wants to coyote hunt. I'm going to start branching out and looking for some new spots to hunt. Plus I plan on hitting the south side of Lake Sakakawea pretty soon. There are thousands of acres of public land that hold a lot of coyotes.

So i am detailing my trip and it looks like back to Montana,but have a question,
does anybody hunted around Glasgow area in Montana,

Have not hunted around Glasgow in 30 years but it runs in my mine that there is not a lot of public lands around there. I think that's why it's has been so long we hunt 99% public lands.. Sorry
