wth is going on? lol

There is a guy over on saubier forum that has a NIB CZ 527 American 17HH for sale but I'll warn you ahead of time he's asking more than double what the cost for it.

I have two CZ 527 Varmint model 17HH and I'm very happy I already have them because no way would I pay 1400 for one.

With the CZ 527 being discontinued, folks are starting to realize that they need to buy now, which is driving up prices. We saw it with the .221 Fireball 527s and are now seeing it with the rest of the 527 rifles: https://www.gunbroker.com/Bolt-Action-Rifles/search?Keywords=cz-usa%20527

Nowadays, with unique items, it's a buy once, cry once kind of world. It sucks, but what is an extra $500-$700 over 10, or 15 years?

We are converting two 527s chambered in .204 Ruger and a .223 Rem into a .22 Nosler and a .224 Valkyrie. People think I'm nuts! ;-)

I know where there is a Ruger 77/17. Green Mountain edition with the gray colored barrel. Its nice but over priced as well. Not twice as much as new but over priced. With the scarcity of 17 Hornets and the shape its in, its just how bad you want it.

really? a plain old vanilla 223 is in the same boat? crazy.

Yup, crazy. I am giving up for a while. Maybe things will calm down if stores can actually get some items in stock. My little local shop has been on lists just to be able to order rifles. And the choices of caliber are great as long as you want 6.5 creedmoor.

The .17 Hornet forum over on Facebook has a lot of people there asking the same questions. They want one, preferably a CZ, but cannot find them for a sane price. OK, time flies but when I bought mine a few short years back I just had my local FFL shop order me one for $600 and thought that was plenty high. I shoot my 527 rifles in .17 Hornet and .221 Fireball (both have varmint weight barrels) much more than any other of my centerfires during squirrel season. I have 527 American in .223 that sits almost unloved in the safe year around around for no other reason than I prefer shooting the little ones. And never do the ground squirrels complain.

I have run across some (relatively) decently priced rifles in the smaller calibers I would love to try. But even if you get the rifle, finding reloading components is difficult and more expensive yet. Lord help you if you are forced to buy factory ammo. I feel for the fellow really wanting a 17.

Had a feeling this might happen so last year I started watching the local gun sale classifieds like a hawk for CZs and Contenders. Already had a CZ527 Varmint 17 Hornet that I loved but I was able to pick up another identical one as backup for $750. I haven't seen any more CZ 17 Hornets since the one I bought, but I have also scooped up CZ527s in some other calibers: Luv version 22 Hornet ($850), an American 221 Fireball ($600), and a Varmint 223 ($800). Might take a bit of patience but usually something will pop up eventually if you've got any sizeable gun trading market around you.
