O-ring to reduce run out

Anyone tried or currently using an o-ring between the lock ring and press body to minimize run out during sizing? I picked up a couple of 7/8 inch I.d. o-rings, next is setting up a gauge to measure for run out.

Tried o ring under expander stem lock ring w/mixed results....probably not all that effective. Better results w/inside neck lubrication and/or carbide expander plug, better yet w/o expander ball.

Tried it when the world was young. Tried it like Clarence did too. Didn't have a gage back then, don't really know if it worked

Getting rid of expanders made concentricity easy.

Same here! Bushing dies with a decapping pin retainer and the expander button goes in the trash.

I just decap on a separate press with the Lee Universal Decapper. Then it is bushing dies from there!

I've tried most tricks while trying to get good results with dies that didn't want to make straight ammo. The only trick that worked was replacing the bad dies with better ones. The worst was my first set of 204 dies, RCBS. That sizer would not produce a straight case no matter what I did. Returned them for a set of Reddings and problem solved. Before that and since then I've gotten run of the mill RCBS dies that produced great ammo but that 204 die sure didn't.

Most brands of new brass,at least for me, have needed the expander run through to fix out of round case mouths. Should I turn .001-.002 off the expander for loading the first time, then I can ditch it?

I turn my necks, so the out of round gets taken care of anyway.

But just seating a bullet will cure that out of round. If it's so out of round you can't even start a bullet, just turn the bullet around and worry the edges out a bit.
