Ok I need a new trimmer I currently have the Lyman accutrimmer and just don’t like how to adjust for length and it doesn’t give consistent results even once set. How is the rcbs trimmer the manual one I don’t do enough volume to need an electric one. How is the Lyman universal trimmer the orange one? Any advice would be good.

Ever try a Lee Case Trimmer?

Work great using drill or power screw driver, no adjustments necessary. I used a Forster for years to trim and turn necks but no longer shoot competition. No longer neck turn so replaced the Forster with Lee. I find it easier to trim every time with the Lee than to measure and trim as necessary.

I have a Lee set up with body holders in 222 Rem and 22-250, it works great for single cartridges and it seems to be pretty cartridge specific.

When I'm working with cartridges based on the same case 20 Practical, 223, 6x45mm or 204 Ruger, 22-204, 6mm-204, 25-204 I much prefer a Wilson or C&H and have one set up for that cartridge group. Once set up there are no adjustments needed or pilots to change. You could set one up and trim 22-243, 243, 260 Rem, 7mm-08, 308 and 358 Win with the same shell holder. I believe that C&H can make a case holder of any cartridge on their cartridge list which is a very very long list.

For low round count calibers I use the Lyman Universal Trimmer mention in the original post (orange one). For high round count stuff I use "The Worlds Cheapest Trimmers", very fast and consistent and inexpensive.

The Giraud Power Trimmer works well....

I started out with the Lyman's Universal Trimmer and used it for about ten years, Found a used Lyman Power Trimmer for sale and bought it. I've been using it for almost 20 years now.

I use the Lee case length trimmers and picked a 243 WSSM for 6x6.8.
Had to screw it out slightly then fix it with lock-tite, works fine.
Additionally, had to get the 6.8 spc trimmer, just for the 6.8 spc case head holder.

Don't know about 22-243.. maybe 220 swift ?

Also use these : Lee ball grip and have one with its trimmer mandrel for each cartridge.

i have used most that have been mentioned.the giraud is the best hands down.makes easy work.i have never looked back

The RCBS, Lee, Lyman, ect all can give a few thou off because of the different pressure we apply to the job. Until you spend $400 on a trimmer you will often be a few thou off. Truth is, as long as it's short enough to chamber, it doesn't make that much difference unless it's 100 thou off. What really make a difference is the neck tension. That's what you should be worring about. Uneven neck tension will cause havoc to a group.

If you can afford it, the Wilson is probably the best on the market. Myself, I have the Hornady trimmer and my cases are dead-nuts, spot-on 98% of the time once set. I've tried the WFT etc that go off the shoulder and they were no where consistent enough for me, as good enough isn't good enough for my anal expectations relative to case trimming.

If you're shooting benchrest, spend the money on a high quality trimmer.

Otherwise the WFT (or ebay copy) is plenty accurate and super fast. Trimming is my least favorite part of loading, and the faster it goes the better.

I use the RCBS and have a 3 way cutting head for mine. I love it trims, chamfers, and deburs all in one step. Running it by hand I can get 15+ cases a minute. I usually do batches of 250 .556 brass and its only about 30 minute ordeal.
