So my quest begins.
I'm looking for some optics for a new AR15. I have about $500 to spend.

night hunting is important to me. 100-200 yard shots.

What's a good starting point for me to look? I'm thinking something low power scope to get a good FOV

I got a Vortex PST 2.5-10x44 from cameralandny for $500, it was a demo unit so regular price is $600. But i love it. I use it on a 16" 223 and killed a bunch of hogs with it before getting thermal.
It has a illuminated reticle so its pretty decent at night. I also use a Streamlight Strion LED HP.

The cheapest I've seen them advertised is $480. I don't know if you scrounged around, if you could find a better deal or not. I also don't know if it comes with an ir light or not. I've been looking over the night vision/ thermal scopes ever since I found out it was now legal in my state. It seems like everyone prefers these over the ATN X-sights, which is why it peaked my curiousity.

I opted to spend a lot more money and went thermal, but I might pick one of these up for a spare gun just to play with night vision.
