Ok this is new to me- 4200 Elite Bushnell

For use on a AR you should investigate the Burris with posi-lock. Check it out. Not to get in your face but a -$300 scope for a +$900 rifle does not to me add up, unless you are into short range shooting, then a red dot or halo would work. My .02.

I can hit with a scope that isn't $600, Jim.

I killed a coyote (with witnesses) in Feb. that was over 400 yards with my custom Armalite that has a 3-9x40 Leupold Rifleman on it. He had hung-up & wouldn't come in.

I'm just not pleased with the clarity of my Leupolds, more than anything, & I'm getting teh mid-life eyes aren't what they used to be thing....

Might be that no scope can improve what I see.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
I dont have a 4200, but I have the 3200 Elite on my Mini 14 in 3X9 and it holds up well, fast firing, a few bumps here and there, and have never had to resight it. Im a Believer in Bushnell as well.

I have not been around all of these scopes but I have compared my Bushnell Elite 4200 and 6500 to Black Diamonds and various Leupolds and I would definitely keep my Bushnells. The glass is awesome and they are supposed to be very good at holding zero especially in situations like you are going to be in. Mine are perfect at holding zero.
 
I been preaching about the elite lineup a long time, and at first everyone called me crazy, then they looked through them, maybe there is something to tweeter after all lol!
 
I just put a Bushnell Elite 3200 with the ballistics reticle on my Bushmaster Varminter and what a combo and I have to admit more clarity and I own alot of Leupolds as well. The other scopes I have are the Nikon Buckmaster 2 of them in 4.5-14 and they are right up there as well. Either of those three and you will be sitting pretty. My next scope will be a 4200 and it will come from Optics Planet.

I really dont know how many people that have looked thru my scopes that went on to buy them for themselves, but I know that they are out there.

I too have been a Leupold guy for about 15 years,but after looking through a 4200 series I now have one on my AR. I try not to abuse the gun but I do hunt...no problem so far. I have the 3.5x10. One day before dark I compared it to bout a dozen Leupolds of various lines including some I thought were the ultimate low light scope. The Bushnell out performed all in that area. For the $ I think you'll be pleased.

I've got LaRue Tacticle mounts for it.

I'm really not pleased with clarity & light gathering of my leupolds here lately.

I don't spend $500-600 bucks on a scope, so I saw the Bushnell elite 4200 3-9x40 for like $269....

Does anyone shoot these scopes? If so, whats your opinion of them.

These are what I look for in a scope...(In order of priority)

1) Ability to hold zero in rough conditions. (ATV truck rides)

2)Clarity

3) Light gathering

The 4200s have nice glass... but they are not very strong and I would never put one on a truck gun - (I have broke two, WITH MINOR BUMPS).

Light gathering is a function of the diameter of the objective, divided by the power - it has nothing to do with tube diameter or anything else.

Even though I have bunches of Leupolds, I am NOT thrilled with them these days.

There are better scopes for less money. I think Leup is coasting on their reputation and asleep in the design department.

I sold my last VX3 and purchased the Monarch UCC. No comparison. Leupold is quite disappointing for the money lately.

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 and I hate the crosshairs, but love the glass. Would be curious to try a 4200 as well.

When I purchased my first 4200 several years ago, Bushnell had a "no questions asked" return policy for one year, if the buyer was not happy with the scope. Buy it. Try it. And if you don't like it, take them up on the return offer.
 
I have two 4200 and they are very nice. I also have a couple of the new Nikon monarchs. I do like the side focus on the Nikon but the 1.25x4x24 4200 is the brightest clearest scope i own. I also have a leupold vx3 and i have thought about selling it. Lee
 
Same scope as I was using in NM...
Just a Sightron SII 3-9...

Easily on par with a VX-II to my eyes after field and in sitting comparisons. All for 195$.

The Sightron Big Sky is way more better (technical term) than the SII in the 350-400 clam range...

They have a no questions asked customer service like Leupy does...

I'm just sayin'...grin...Don't want to change your mind now...grin...

Curious to know more about SWFA's rating criteria. It seems a little "distorted around the edges"...
 
Saw NcStar on the list. real quick story about them. I always like jacking with the mall ninjas that work a lot of the booths at gun shows around here, and I was messin with the bozo at the NcStar booth at teh last one. He was your typical zombie patrol guy, complete with "tactical" leather gloves (guess he didnt want to loose his grip on the pen), and a giant knock off kabar stapped to his leg that was almost a machette in length. He first tried to tell me that a good reloader could push a .30-06 as hot as any .300 Weatherby. I just kinda said "really?" an started asking him about NcStar scopes. He went on to tell me that they made a lot of the top of the line scopes for oter companies, all about his trip to Kodiac and how he dropped his gun off a 20 foot cliff, landed on the scope, and kept its zero (by the way, yes it was a .30-06 with one of his super whiz-bang handloads), blah blah blah. My wife picked up a silver one to comment on how shiny it was, AND THE ENTIRE EYEPIECE FELL OFF RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF US! He quickly took it and tried to say taht that was one that they had cut in half to show the quality of the work on the inside and that it must have just got mixed up with the actual sellable product. Even my wife gave him a disgusted look as we walke off. My 4 year old daughter was with us and asked, "why did that nice mans face turn so red, daddy?" lol
