OK, what's so great about the AR?

I would love to have one for deer season here in Illinois, but I think they quit working on it when the AR craze started. Hopefully they will bring it out down the road. You may have a little explainig to do if you get checked by the game warden though. Lol.

The best thing about them is that Obama hates them. You have one lower that's actually serial numbered. Onto that lower you can put multi caliber uppers that no one has any idea you even own... It's beautiful man.
Obama sits at night and pulls his hair out knowing there's guys out there with guns he doesn't know they have. It's all good..

I haven't shot one since I was in the Army back in the early 70s. We called them M16s back then. I remember they were easy to shoot and not a lot of recoil concidering the size of the round and being able to go full auto with them. I know I want one now since I have a place to shoot anytime and plan on yote hunting with it. Now I just need to decide what caliper and if I want to buy already built or build my own. Decisions decisions.......

The AR is the Jeep of the Gun World. There is a ton of accessories and building them is half the fun. They are an ADDICTION!!!

I ended up joining the AR club about two years ago. I started hunting coyotes with a .30-06. Not pelt friendly. From what I had heard .223 was the ideal caliber for lethality and reduced pelt damage. My sights were on a Remington VTR and the few that were in town were like $850.00. For a long time I thought I don't need the tacticool commando rifle. I had five years National Guard, then 10 years in the Navy. I had plenty of time with the M16, so it wasn't my dream rifle. Just plain didn't care for it actually. When I finally got some money scraped together to get a new rifle, I thought maybe the Mini-14 would be an inexpensive option for a semi auto. Then I read the reviews on the accuracy of the Mini-14 and scratched it off the list. I decided I might as well go semi auto in an AR. I had seen some used that were priced about the same as the VTR and decided to go for it. I ended up with a new DPMS for 729.00. I canabalized a scope off another rifle and killed a coyote first day out with a bore sight done at the shop. I guess the question is, why would you buy a tired old bolt gun?

The greatest thing about The AR platform is modularity. Once you have a lower the sky is the limit. Want to shoot nra style matches? pull two pins and swap on a national match upper. Want to hunt deer? pull those same two pins and swap on a 6.5 Grendel upper or a 6.8 spc upper. wanna splat ground rats, pull those same two pins and swap on the 204 upper. The options are endless. all of this can be done with one lower receiver. get one ar15 receiver and one ar10 receiver and with the right collection of uppers there is nothing on the planet you cant kill with a well placed shot.

With a bolt gun, switching barrels usually requires a gun smith. With an Ar you can change barrels on the fly. get a vice and a action block and a barrel wrench and in about 15 minutes you just re-barreled your upper.
