Old coin-slot Leupold 6.5-20

I bought this scope new in the late 90's I believe. I currently have it atop my Savage LRPV in 22-250. It works well, except for It doesn't have as much moa adjustability as my new Leupold 6.5-20 which I have on my LAR-8. I'm shooting 53 gr vmaxes at 4,000 fps. I run out of drop at 750 yards but this load is good to 1,000. I don't have much money to spend and I'm trying to figure out my options. Any suggestions? Does anyone rebuild these? I really don't want to put a 20 moa base on it as the scope is plenty high as is.

Putting a 20 MOA base on isn't going to raise the scope that much. There is little else to do. I have two of those scopes on 20 MOA bases and use them in long range prairie dog shooting. I also use the Stoney Point target knobs which are much cheaper than sending the scope to Leupold for modification

Ok. Maybe I should get a 20 moa base. With value in mind, what brand should I go with for the LRPV? Should I go zero cant?

Burris makes the Signature series that will fit Leupold or Weaver type bases. You can get the insert kit that will add elevation.

How far it will "reach" depends on the cartridge and the bullet's BC.

What caliber?

The standard 6x20 Leupold has ~40 moa of total elevation.

If you put it on a 20 MOA base, you should be able to get a 100 yard zero at the bottom of your elevation adjustment, so all the adjustment is now "up".

Assuming that everything is "in order", you are limited by the amount of drop the bullet has. The 168 SMK in a 308 Win, has 37 moa of drop at 1,000 but if you shoot the same bullet from a lesser powered 30 cal, and you won't have enough adjustment to take it to 1,000.
