i just got a 25 yr old rifle, wood with bull barrel.
floated. with 9x lepo.
from a older guy that only shot a box through it.
even my gunsmith said it was a new gun. does anyone have this gun??? i lookin for a good yote load for minimal dammage.

Gotta love those old Ruger's..

I have two M77's with the "tang" safety.

257 Robert's built in 1991 or 1992.

220 Swift built in 1980 or 1981.

I'd suggest a 50 or 55 grain "soft point" bullet & H380..W-760 or Varget for powder choice's..

Good luck....

Let us know how it shoots. Of the several 22-250's I've had some shot great and some were not so good. Ruger wasn't making their own barrels early on and did some low bid stuff.

You will love the gun, shoot the gun, hunt with it, have fun, you be the judge......don't be influenced by the crap on the internet.

I own the same rifle made in 1976, my go to gun.

I would highly recommend 55gr Sierra Gamekings with 35gr of Varget.

well 1 nich - 1 1/2 inch at 100.
but im not much of a shooter( yet)
my buddy covered his with a quater.
we've had 10 15 mph wind for the last 3 days so im thinkin it will get better than that.

I had one and it was very accurate. It would knock out 1/2" groups with ease. I used a 52 grain Sierra HPBT and IMR 4895. One of the nicest rifles I've ever owned.

14 twist as I recall.

I bought a 22-250 77V in 1974 and put a 12X Leupold on it. It was very accurate. I shot lots of Sierra 52 (or 53) grain FLAT-BASE bullets thru it. It didn't like boat tails. 1/2" (or less) 3 shot groups were no problem. My favorite powder was IMR4320. Some of these rifles just would NOT shoot. My nephew had a 77V in 243 that was a dog. Sounds like you got a good one. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. The tang safety model is still my favorite Ruger.
