I am looking at getting a 25 wssm upper for deer hunting. Anyone have any exsperience with these?
Or what caliber would be good for long range deer hunting?
 
I've heard great things about the 6.5 Grendel and it's good for deer size game out to 500 yards and targets past 1000. There are not many long range hunting ar15 out there.

I don't know much about the 25wssm.
 
From what I've heard it's a little less than the 25-06 Rem. So it should be good out to 4 or 500yds. It's closer to the .257 Roberts. Unless you reload there's probably not alot of choice in ammo out there. I'm no expert, but was considering a 25 WSSM myself.

How does it shoot? I have heard mixed reviews about the carbon wrapped stuff. I have known a few people that were not happy with the christensen carbon stuff and how it handled rapid fire. They claimed the accuracy, when hot, was bad.

I have (2) Olympic Arms® 25WSSM units; (1) is a custom Dtech w/ 22in barrel, w/ integral compensator, it’s a freakin tack-driver (sub MOA) all day long w/ handloads; and I’ve taken nearly a dozen Deer with it to date; as I can surgically implant the round.

as for the limited edition carbon-fiber unit (there are only two of these ever made, that I know of) I’ve not had the opportunity to shoot this upper-halve yet; as I just picked it up a few months ago.

I’ll get out and shoot it sometime, and report back with my findings …

I don’t rapid fire much, especially not the 25WSSM … as I’m typically a ‘Bench Shooter’ plus I use the 25WSSM strictly for hunting big game
