FAL, Can you show me 1) Where Oly has a major contract with the government? 2) CMT is making receivers for Colts.

No, I simply lied and made all this up just to pizz you off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Yeah, I knew what you were up to but had to re-affirm it with those questions.

Dtech is correct, for over twenty years I lived only 40 minutes from Oly Arms, been there several times, met with them at gun shows. Purchased lots of parts from them and why you ask, because they make good parts at a fair price. I'm not in bed with Oly, don't work for Oly and never have but I do believe they treat their customers well.
But that is just MY first hand personal experience with them as many others have experienced.

You are unhappy about your Oly product, they may be willing to help you out. But, just because you happen to have a magazine that does not fit, is certainly no reason for Oly to completely remachine every AR they have made over the life of the company just to make one person happy. Oly has no control over what Colt or Thermold makes or sells.

You just want to whine, fine, whine away. But the original poster has already done the deal on the Oly and I'm done with this thread. Time to move on I suggest you do the same. You haven't re-affirmed anything except your ignorance to fact, so get over it.

My buddy has an Oly that has a small magwell. We thought it was a mag problem but all indications point to the lower.

Please re=read my post. My Thermolds works fine. They just don't fit in the Oly magwell. That tells me the magwell is NOT machined to spec. The issue is NOT the mag in this particular case. I am just relating my experience with my one and only Oly.

FALFIRE, Don't go gettin' your panty in a wad because some people did not like the brand of rifle you like. For someone who "has been" with a law enforcement agency, you sure have poor reading and comprehension skill. I initially wrote that I had problem inserting Thermold magazines into my Oly lower and my Colt upper mating to that lower. You then starting too state how crappy Thermold mags are in FUNCTIONING and how crappy Colts are. I have no problem with the Colt upper and the Thermolds working with the Bushmaster or the Colt lowers. Again that tells me that the Oly was not machined to spec.
When I went to the range this w/e that is used by a 2000+ officer department, I asked the range officer there what brand of AR do most LEO use here? His reply was about 50% Colts and the rest mostly Bushmaster and RRA. I enquired about Oly, he said he hardly see an LEO with an Oly. I asked why, he said he had seen a lot of issues with Oly's.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and buy whatever they can afford. The Colts, RRA, Busmaster, LMT cost more than an Oly. But why is it that they still continue to sell? Better quality or better resale value? Who knows...it's all in the mind of the comsumer.
My question concerning the Oly contract was basically a reaction to your statement of how crappy the Colts are in GENERAL. Again I am talking about all the AR's Oly makes and all the AR-M# that Colts makes. I am not talking about your gun or some custom fitted guns that some of the vendors on here put together. If Oly was so much better than Colt according to you, show me a MAJOR Gov't contract that approaches Colt.
To me it seems like when people have to put their a$$ on the line, most people and agencies have chosen other brands of AR-M# other than Oly. You are probably thinking, well Oly is a small outfit, family owned blah blah blah so they can't compete with the bigger guys. Well, you know what? If you are that good, the guys with the money will come knocking down your door, read SPEC OP and LEO.
Final thought for you and all the guys that are in love with their Oly's (not me as you can tell). And it's good to know that the vendors on this forum can put together some fine rifles with Oly parts. Kind of remind me back in high school when this kid had a Ford Pinto and he put a V-8 in it. He was kicking all the Mustang's a$$'s and he really loved his Pinto. P.S. don't get so worked up dude, it's all good...Bye.

264, for what it's worth, on one of my trips to Olympic Arms, I saw the pallets of rifles tagged and ready for the Air Force. Judging from FALfires past posts, and his geographic location, he may very well have visited Oly and seen the same thing.

The bottom line is: Oly has and does have military contracts. That doesn't make them "good" or "bad". You have apparently had a bad experience with Olympic Arms. My uncle had a bad experience with Ford. He was smart enough to know he must have gotten a lemon. He knew that tens of thousands of others had a far different experience with Ford than what he had. My uncle not only had problems with his Ford, but he also had trouble getting it taken care of by the local Ford dealership. The whole thing left a pretty bad taste in his mouth for Ford, but he visited an other dealership, his problems were addressed and solved.

If you don't like Oly, don't buy one. There are plenty of folks out there that have them and love them.

Mike, let me start off by saying it looks like you build some fine guns there. I have seriously considered getting in contact with you and have you build me an upper. I don't know now because for some reason from your posts I have antagonized you. As for your ucle thing, I am not your uncle nor anyone else here, so when we come into different situations we all act differently. Me? I would have went and bought a Tundra /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. BTW, in retail we have what is called generic brand products. Stores can buy them cheaper than name brand, sell them at a lower retail and still have a higher margin of profit. seems like a lot of stores are trying to do that don't you think? Keep up the good work and have a great day.

LOL! I probably would have bought a Tundra as well! No, you have not antagonized me. I shouldn't even be writing on these boards when I have as much on my plate as I do right now. I responded to a post on another board at 5:18 this morning that pizzed a guy off. I just spent the last half hour getting that one behind me.

I don't have any investment in Oly either. I do have a certain "brand loyalty" to them, and I firmly believe in their broach-cut barrel, but that's were it ends. I know they are far from perfect, but one thing that has yet to be pointed out in this thread: Oly has often been an innovator in the AR business. They were the first to produce a commercial flat-top upper receiver, the first to produce a pistol caliber upper, the first to produce a WSSM caliber upper. When you stick your neck out, and do something new, you are bound to make some mistakes.

f.w.i.w,
I have a Tundra & three OLY barreled Dtech AR uppers (and another with a Shilen). Does that make me a bad person? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
SuperBowlCoyote025-2.jpg

Anyway, they both GET THE JOB DONE /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
That is Toyota truck #4 and Dtech AR #1 of 4 on the tailgate...

Use whatcha like & like whatcha use...it makes the world a much more interesting place.

Toyota & Dtech both have lifelong customers in me for VERY good reasons...

Well said if you don't want to use oly don't. There are lots of good AR's out there. But us Dtech guys use him for a lot of reasons one being his product quality, which happens to be Oly.
